#1 Sadness + Disgust feels more like "Betrayal" to me than "Contempt"

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Valid. The main thing with us is giving people words to be able to use to describe their emotions. This wasn't the best one out there, however, some people like it because they like the movie.

#1 hangry, horngry, ...

oops, forgot procrasturbating

#1 My interpretation of the chart is that one emotion is more prominent than the other, leading to different nuanced, context-sensitive feelings. If you have more sadness than anger, you're feeling resentment at the thing or person; if you have more anger, you feel betrayed. It's not a one-chart-fits-all-scenarios kind of deal, but it's fun seeing therapists build on what Inside Out started.

Love this post, thank you!

#17 Not sure that drinking that much wine is a good basis for a relationship

#1 This chart doesn't make sense, the horiz and vert columns don't match up... is joy + anger = Fervor (on the horiz) or does joy + anger = zeal (on the vert)?

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Its total BS, as if those are the only emotions anyway

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Calling BS on #1

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Being able to put feelings into words is more important than the accuracy. It's not a great graft to be honest. People can relate sometimes because it references the movie

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty much. You can tell 'cause Joy + Sadness =/= Sadness + Joy, etc.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm going to push back on Anger plus Anger being Rage- Anger and Anger AND Hate are Rage. Anger plus Anger is Fury. Anger plus Disgust is... not Hate, but I'm not sure what it is.

#20 wasn't expecting Relena from Gundam Wing in a mental health meme dump.

I will be honest, I had no idea where she came from. I just liked what she said

#43 The giant Himalayan lily has nothing on bamboo! Bamboo takes 50 or 100 years to flower.

I'm not sure what this does to the metaphor

#24 This was such a nice moment to look in the mirror and think "that's a pretty person - just not me". Dysphoria sucks, but imagine how much more beautiful I'll be when I manage to actually be me, physically, when that not-me in the mirror is already kinda pretty.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

was gonna say, disliking mirrors was a pretty big clue that I was trans. I have an appointment to get HRT in a few weeks, I'm hoping to look in a mirror in a few months and see a woman looking back.

#1 @OP how does joy factor into disdain?

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My best guess is that it's "I'm better than you". That doesn't seem super joyful though.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It doesn't. This chart has a few hits but it's mostly misses. "Betrayal" isn't an emotion, it's an act.

#2 I prepare the coffee machine for future me every night. I think, this for you future me! Then in the morning when I start the coffee I thank past me.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

future-me dont deserve kindness from me, and past-me is an asshole that never do anything for me

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry you feel that way. Even if you don't love where you are right now, you should root for your future self.

I have clients who legitimately hate themselves. If that's what's going on here, I highly recommend figuring out something about yourself that you can like. You may not like yourself now, what can you do to like yourself more?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i dont want to like myself, im a total hateful bitch, i hate everyone, myself included and im totally fine with that

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Out of curiosity, what do you mean that you're totally fine with that?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it was is written on the tin, i hate peoples , and im living totally fine with hating peoples, and since im peoples too

#35 except they glaze over the root issue and a critical missing step. You have to be able to identify your emotions first. You can't accept them if you don't know what they are. Which is the biggest issue here, if you were never taught, or learned how, to feel your feelings, this won't work.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes and no. Individuals with autism traditionally have a very hard time identifying what emotion their feeling. One study indicated that they found benefit from being able to identify if the emotion was positive or negative and then how intense it was.

In general, we get the most benefit from being able to identify what we're feeling by name. It removes the ambiguity and puts a label on something that's scary.

Agreed. As a make with AuAdhd myself, stuff like this doesn't register as important enough to process. But once it was made clear, "how does your body feel when you have anxiety" for example, helped ground me in the importance of this concept. Because once you feel it, and can name it, you can accept it. You know the whole learning how to actually process/feel your emotions. I had to learn at 40. And once that door was open, and specific energy was put into the process, it helped so much.

It was the focus to what my body was telling me, something specifically needed with autism - because it is not relative, it is based on the individual. Mental concepts only work when they have a physical reference point.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was needed to have the weight needed to process. To get past the "knows everything about it, but still has doubts" thing that is common. Because there is a physically grounded sensation to reference.

#1 ah man, I got anxiety. AGAIN.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's only anxiety if it's from the Anxieté region of France, otherwise it's just sparkling nervousness.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's rough. Especially for a mom. You've got little ones looking to you for how to act.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep, but I see a therapist about it. Also they're not very little anymore, my oldest is 23 and my youngest is 14.

I don’t see “horny”

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s what I am. Constantly. It’s irritating

I bet I could have guessed that by your username.

#1 Here's how this feels for me:

1 month ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

Alexithymia? It's when you don't know what you're feeling. often comes when your parents didn't help you understand your emotions as a child, or, worse, invalidated them.

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Maybe, maybe not it's not like there would be any experts anywhere who could tell. I asked.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter too much, I strongly suspect that I'm on the spectrum which would boil down to the same as you said: That I would have needed help as a child/teen to identify emotions, which I didn't have ofc. Instead trauma piling on and long periods of depression.
Learned a lot, but doesn't have much significance today honestly.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's a hard thing that a lot of people don't talk about. Some people don't have the volatility of emotions that we're trained to expect from media. It's easy to feel broken when what's portrayed is not what you experience. Most the time I'm just meh.

1 month ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I really never cared much about it. It just became very obvious very fast how difficult it is to talk to a therapist when every second is about how something felt to me and all I could say was ?????.
Or when psychiatrists would give me SSRIs to stabilise my mood, but my mood is already stable. It's in a neutral buffer every day and doesn't change for weeks or months. It actually became worse with the SSRI because of all those damn sideeffects.

Anywho... I'm in the middle of an extensive >

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

evaluation if I'm on the spectrum or not. Because that would explain a lot, including my emotions.

(It's not that they are not there. I have them in that neutral buffer on purpose because anything outside it becomes too extreme too quickly)

Getting answers is very helpful. I wish you the best of luck

Thanks!

I got diagnosed with audhd and switching to therapy for people with autism helped me a lot! For me understanding the why my mind and body works and reacts the way it does helps me be able to process and manage it better. Still have ups and downs but it’s been a surprising improvement. I hope you get the answers you’re looking for!

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's always been like that for me, yes. And with improved infos online I was able to get on that same path myself essentially. Doesn't really matter anymore today.
