I apologize if you're doing a bit that I'm missing, but it's definitely "look" and not "kick." The phrase refers to the practice of checking a horse's teeth to estimate its age (strongly tied to the worth of the horse, on paper). When you're given a horse as a gift, however, immediately checking its worth is considered disrespectful to the gift giver.

No, it was his cognomen. His title at the time he was killed was 'dictator perpetuo'. It didn't become a title until over a century after Gaius Julius Caesar's death. It was a part of the early emperors' names, since they were all related either by birth or adoption, then when that dynasty ended, the later emperors adopted it because it had become a recognizable part of an emperor's name.

Hah, yeah, the original was actually named Caesar. Octavian also assumed Caesar's full name after Caesar's death, before eventually gaining the title/honorific Augustus, and changing his name once again, eventually being known as Imperator Caesar Augustus (or Augustus Caesar). Later on, Augustus became the title for the Emperor of Rome, and Caesar became the title of the Heir to the Emperor of Rome (and during one period, they had two of each, each presiding over a different part of the empire).
