The thicker the glass, the more likely to crack from hot liquid, due to uneven thermal expansion. If it's tempered, it's no longer an issue.

If it was really cold beforehand b/c of he sudden temperature change. (Glassblowing uses high temperatures to mould the glass into shape.)
