Often the reason for this is supercars don't have a lot of miles on them. Older ones like this Viper likely have tires that show good tread depth but are too old and the rubber doesn't grip well anymore.

The Porsche 911 has a bad rep because people had NO clue on how they behave. The engine is in the back, if you get into a slide, press the throttle and correct it instead of cutting power as you'll just have a 400lb swing weight in the rear coming back the other way all of the sudden, basically it just doesn't behave as a FR layout and it caught people offguard.
A good sportcar is supposed to have a decent weight balance between front and rear. Moreover, a weight imbalance to the back is quite rare. I'm not surprised they had no clue.
It definitely is unorthodox but given that the 911 platform is the platform with the absolute most competitive wins in motorsport history and that the newer models are blazingly fast around the 'Ring, they clearly were on to something even though it takes some getting used to.

I test drove one back in the early 2002. What ridiculous piece of shit that car was. It was only good for driving in a straight line, no exaggeration. Every time you do anything in a Viper, it feels like the car is trying to kill you! Ended up buying a Z06 instead.

They are horrible on a track, even a drag strip. Step on the gas to fast, you spin, step on the break to hard, you spin. When you do take it to a track you have drop it off at the shop the day after cause they have to replace half the body plastics that snapped the connectors due to torque twisting. Also your pilot sport cup 2’a have to be replaced cause it just pops rubber ball off them on each corner.
Pretty accurate. They are crap to drive every day. Panel gaps are all off. No hood release on the inside (it's located up in the lower grill). They are uncomfortable. I saw a Viper ACR a while back that is basically a track car. It had one of the fastest times on the ring for a long while.

I've never driven one, but Car & Driver regularly had it beating the Vette in high speed track tests. Yes, they certainly know what they're doing, but they evaluate balance specifically and often said it was more forgiving than the Vette.

I was young once and longed for horsepower, loud pipes and burnouts. Now I just want to cruise down the road nice and easy and not have crazy ass people cut me off or tailgate me or (one I saw yesterday) cross over into oncoming traffic to make a turn
I like having a car that can do both.....I've had an RB25 powered S13 for about ten years now. (it was just a regular S13 i bought in 2002 before that) It's not loud though. I *hate* loud cars. XD
