This is an example of a “patter song”. A type of comedic recitative commonly found in 19th century comic opera made famous by Gilbert and Sullivan. It features fast, syllabic lyrics with a repetitive rhyme scheme and an A, A’, A”… aka no verses or choruses. Every section is the same. Can be found in lots of other G&S “musicals” (technically comic operas but…) like The Mikado and H.M.S. Pinafore.
