Credit affects more than getting credit cards and loans. It Also affects insurance rates, potential jobs, and other things thai i dont kno
Malicyn
Can still use it to commit crimes in your name and get prescription drugs, which could screw up your medical history.
RdizzyC
Same here, score of 470.
snotcaulk
Perhaps some kind-hearted criminal will notice and feel bad, then help raise it for you.
DaxiaoD
There's a dick joke in your title somewhere about the diminutive size of your member, but I'm too classy to make it...
Placentaur
Question: should I worry about equifax if I don't have a credit score/cards?
flerkinmygerkin
Shit sucks, it's hard to climb that mountain but it is possible, and God damn it is so worth it.
chakarakarama
Truth. I have a job with a card attached to my name that the company pays for business expenses. Banks just give you money to use.
LannistersSendTheirRetards
Yeah, if I can't do anything with it I doubt anyone else can
shotinthehead
my credit is too overdraw
TimJDrake
What the hell are we supposed to do about this anyway?
doctorbees
Watch your accounts for strange charges. Check your credit reports regularly for anyone opening accounts in your name. You can get credit 1
I have it already. I'm paranoid.
monitoring, but that often costs money (might be worth it though if you can afford it). 2/2
sblaydes
My score is to low that it would go up if someone stole my identity. Hospital bills. Cancer isn't cheap.
BigBadBillyBoy
There are plenty of scumbag lenders who will still loan you (or an imposter) money at higher rates.
valkyrie9
There is a class action lawsuit you can join. Also put a freeze on your credit (it is free) any of the agencies can do it.
QuackQuackAttack
You think you get a lot of junk credit card apps with decent credit? What until its shitty, you'll get 10/day
Inkcat
Having a low score is just as bad as a high score because subprime EXTREMELY HIGH INTEREST RATE exist and they loooove abusing the poor.
BilldeTurlock
U R me. Used to have > $100,000 open credit on plastic, but they started fucking with me. Defaulted on alla them. Now have CapOne $300 card.
SardonicGrin
Yeah well mines not. I've worked my ass off for it and I'm seriously pissed.
aminarra
Same here. >:(
Misora
I'm getting ready to try to buy a house. This is absolutely perfect timing. Grrrr.
thunder2132
Anything you're doing to protect yourself? Curious for myself, as I worked hard on mine, and we obviously can't trust Equifax to help.
About all you can do is watch you credit. investigate anything that looks even sort of suspicious. If you're really worried you can freeze
Your credit. Maybe something like life lock.
Deadmanwalkn
Fuck this "if you're really worried" nonsense. Unless you're looking to open new credit soon, just freeze. If you are, do the interm freeze
There are a few considerations if you decide to freeze - cost, time, inconvenience. But yes. That's certainly the most secure measure.
I froze mine and joined in the class action lawsuit.
Honestly, the cost isn't even that much and if it really is too much, the temp freeze is free and cam be renewed
Emac94
For those asking what you're supposed to do about this: freeze your credit! As long as you're not applying for a loan anytime soon, (1/2)
(2/2) you don't need to have your credit report available. This way scumbags can't apply for loans or credit cards in your name
Freezing is a bit extreme at this juncture, imo. A better solution would be to put a fraud alert on your accounts.
cyno01
So about that... Turns out the PIN they issue you when you freeze your credit to unfreeze it? Hella insecure. Its just a goddamn time stamp.

Thing is, they can use that information years from now. And you'd be amazed at what you can get with bad credit...

I call that theft protection credit score.
ilovecake
Still freeze your credit with all 3 major bureaus, because to create a new line of credit when frozen can't be done unless you thaw it 1st.

Hospital did a number on mine. I've never even had anything else on credit. Three more years until it's off my report.
h2oson762718
I feel ya, I lost 50 points because of a hospital bill of $1.22 and I didn't check my credit because I didn't care, still don't.
Mine was from medical bills as well, from a rear end auto accident, my lawyer lost me the case and thus insurance didn't pay my medical.
And now my score is down to 470.
SirBloop
Did you rear end someone or did you get rear ended
Stopped to make left hand turn, girl behind me was texting and didn't even slow down, smashed the back of my car going 45 mph.
Totaled my car, snapped the rear axle in half, flattened the trunk up against the back seat. Tore ligaments in my ankle and minor back issue

Same. Don't sweat it. Credit reports are bullshit anyway.

Why's that
They're a huge hassle mostly. I have good credit, but building it takes a lot of time, and it can drop quickly for one bad mistake, or bill
For instance, mine dropped after t-mobile sent an account to collections for billing me while my contract was suspended. Took months to fix

That's part of why you don't work with just vendor. You can dispute it totally for free with the credit bearues.
gibbinthegremlin

Because blu cross said it wasnt my fault so they should not have to pay..the useless pricks
Aibell125
My buddy had his own health insurance for 10 years. Got cancer. They denied him - said 'pre-existing condition'. Health insurance is a scam
Agreed
They're a business, all they care about is their bottom line.
They can do other things with it not related directly to credit.
One of the big things is social engineering and breaking into all your various accounts.
Even with poor credit they can make it worse by signing up for things like pay down loans...
Or buying a car with a high interest rate, which you can do with poor credit.
Maybe open a checking account and write bad checks in your name. Lots of shit.
