Hey Imgur! I did a thing!

About a week ago I was in a mall in Florida and saw this in a window display. I was appalled. So I sent the company this letter and posted it on my fb page.

"Papaya Clothing: So I was in the mall the other day and passing by one of your stores and this shirt was prominently on display in your front window. While I'm sure whoever put it there didn't have bad intentions...the message this sends to our young women is abhorrent. While many people do decide to leave high school based upon various circumstances and go on to find educational experiences in other ways...I don't believe that we should be so flippant about this choice as to turn it into decontextualized "fashion." Knowing the factors that lead to this choice are quite often poverty, unstable home lives, lack of proper mentoring, and failures in our system at many levels I really don't think Papaya should be adding another one by making it "cool." I have shopped your store in the past and know that you have many other awesome items a young woman would love to own...and as a store that primarily targets young women it would be nice to know that you're also advocating for their wellbeing as you take their money. While I wholeheartedly believe that the decision to drop out of high school doesn't make you bad or automatically mean you won't find success, I also know that the statistics show that this decision generally leads to lower wages throughout ones life and a harder time finding a job in general among other truly negative outcomes (Here are some numbers if you're interested in learning more: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/by-the-numbers-dropping-out-of-high-school/) Women face enough discrimination in the marketplace already and don't need a push towards it at all. I hope that you find this compelling and seek to address your store's desensitized and tone deaf approach to your consumers."
