Hubby finally got me into no man's sky. My file had 24 hrs and I was so proud of my base, freighter, and progress. Was looking forward to playing it again today and after 2 hrs of updates, file is gone. I'm so discouraged.

Just remember that as you progress your character, you also progress your own skills. If you had fun before, you'll have fun the 2nd time.

save files don't just disappear, they change folders with versions sometimes, make a new save with a unique name, look for that save, go

back a folder level, open the second folder there, move the stuff in the second folder in the newest folder that you just went back from,

be aware, this may make the new save invisible, so don't try this if you are invested in any new saves

Are you playing a version with automatic cloud backups like the PS4 or Xbox one? You could restore your save from there.

If you are on PC, there were automatic backups made upon frontiers. They are not gone. Check the file 'strbackup'.

If you're having problems again, write their support. The devs have shown to be very concerned about savegame issues

USB backups for every major milestone(w/e that means to you). This will save you a ton of headaches in future.

There was a massive update a few days ago, so it's a little buggy for everyone right now. They usually get it patched up within a week.

I had a 200 hour save in Oblivion that got eaten to a corrupted hard drive. Tried restarting, 150+ hour save eaten, same way. Now I do a 1/?

RAID1 on my main hard drives, have backups once a month, & don't buy that brand anymore (IBM/Hitachi). Never did get back into Oblivion. 2/2

Yep, losing a memory card could mean losing new game + + + runthroughs and all characters/outfits unlocked in multiple games all at once. :|

@OP If the game doesn't have multiple saves and doesn't have save protection, find your local save and copy it periodically.
