Your weakness as a human being diminishes their legitimate struggle and sacrifice. Stop it.

Front Page Edit:

Some people think I am saying that people with PTSD from non-military experiences are lesser than others. I was actually talking about this quote describing firing an AR-15, and thought more people would recognize it (the guy has since apologized):

"The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable."

From this article:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/firing-ar-15-horrifying-dangerous-loud-article-1.2673201

As for the fart rape, it doesn't matter whether 'fart rape' was a joke or not. It represents the issue that people who have been raped have gone through an extremely traumatic experience, and it diminishes their trauma to say that anything else is rape. It doesn't matter if it is farting, spreading your legs on a train, looking at a person (no matter how creepily, it still isn't rape), or even shouting vulgar obscenities at a woman as she passes by. The fact is, rape is rape, and don't water down the meaning.

In short, everyone has difficult things. Some things are definitely more difficult than others. Don't diminish more difficult things by calling some less difficult things the same thing.

A violent assault can absolutely cause PTSD. People who are parodying PTSD by either misusing it or trying to mock those women suck.

"Temporary form of PTSD"??? Startled is the word you are looking for, PTSD is by its nature cannot be temporary.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I'm glad that we have people like @OP to divine exactly what every person in the world is REALLY experiencing.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

There's post-traumatic stress, which is temporary, and post-traumatic stress disorder, where something that should heal up doesn't.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone going through bad stuff can experience either. Soldiers, nurses, parents, little bitty kids, tax accountants, anyone.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One batch, Two Batch...

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

People experience ptsd symptoms. It's the jittery paranoid feeling that puts you on high alert. It's when they don't go away you have PTSD.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The amt of people who actually have these issues vastly outnumbers those who fake it. We just like focusing on the tiny percentage who 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

If you have PTSD, anxiety, OCD and don't have an official medical diagnosis, fuck you.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Takes time to be diagnosed, bro.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Where is this from?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Daredevil season 2. It's on Netflix.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This is a really good series and this scene in particular was very thoughtful.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yay thanks. He's a great actor!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

WTF is "fart rape"?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A joke someone made, and imgur and Reddit treated it as an actual story and ran with it and think it's an actual thing people care about.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

I find this argument annoying. I went through depression, anxiety and near suicide. I didn't tell my friends BECAUSE I thought they'd be...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

conscious about making humour about those situations or using those words. If someone is intentionally insulting my situation,it's different

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But using 'this is depressing', 'this makes me wanna kill myself' are parts of language I don't want to die or have people feel bad about.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think fart rape is a real thing

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This isn't a dick measuring contest, @OP. PTSD from combat isn't any more legitimate than any other kind of PTSD. Stop shaming people for it

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 11

Also, you actually think there's a "fart rape" crowd? Seriously?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

This guy completely nailed that role. The dialogues with "Red" were so fucking great.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Word, think their mistake was not having the whole season be just that. All the ninja shit got boring to me.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only good thing about that season was watching red demolish an entire building full of bikers floor by floor in one take....and this obv

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

hey you shut your mouth do you know how many people have been diagnosed with brain disorders like ptsd for shooting a gun at a range

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Well said my friend

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

im going to joke about whatever i want to joke about. If you get offended, then that is your problem.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don't trust him. He'll screw your wife then try to kill you, come back as a zombie and try to screw your wife again. Fur realz yo.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'd like to see him try to fuck Lucille. ;)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lucille fucks, she doesnt get fucked

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So disparaging one group to defend another? Personal vendetta much? lol

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 8

This scene pissed me off tremendously. It reinforced the narrative that 1. Veteran = PTSD and 2. that PTSD = Combat.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

No no, wait. Think about it from his perspective. He wasn't using PTSD as an excuse. He was avenging his family, taking down "bad" guys1

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

2)He was using the events of his past to get vengeance. He admits he's broken, but he won't use PTSD as an excuse for his murders.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It was made very, very clear throughout the season that Frank's PTSD came from witnessing his family's deaths, not from combat. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He straight up SAID THAT at one point to Daredevil's face. So... unless by "reinforced" you mean "refuted," no.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Probably unpopular opinion puffin: if the struggle is legitimate, some twad claiming PTSD doesn't diminish it. Unless, the "struggle" is 1/

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

also just about attention. 2/

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

And a lack of 'fakers' won't stop the assholes finding another reason to dismiss the legitimate cases.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Personally, I don't think I've ever heard of a legitimate case being dismissed (except maybe post-WWI when it was labeled "shell-shock")

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not so much for military, but for non-military (domestic abuse, childhood abuse, accidents, etc) it def gets doubted, especially women.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That seems reasonable (in the sense of "plausible"), but this sort of thing (the OP) would seem to worsen that, making PTSD soldier-territory

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh yah, I'm not supporting the OP's post, which is addressing a legitimately satirical 'claim' and a prime example of unhelpful douchery.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wait. Is that Shane?!

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Same actor, but it's the Punisher, Frank Castle. Scene is from the Netflix original series, "DareDevil". This actor nailed the part so well.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. He played an excellent Frank Castle.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

He was brutal.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got the slightest of southern accents from this Francis Castiglione.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was wondering the same thing but the pictures were too dark for me to be sure

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

one of the most powerful scenes for me this season

10 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

Do you have PTSD from your war against all these straw men?

10 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 12

Savage.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mega clever, bro. +1

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

@OP specifically listed two concrete examples that we know are true. They're obviously not strawmen...

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

Except the fart rape thing was a parody initially. Reddit/imgur ran wild with it though.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Poe's law, yo

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's roughly analogous to "manspreading" and "stare rape", so it does sum up the triviality of modern feminism nicely.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One batch, Two Batch...

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Just because soldiers get ptsd doesn't mean only soldiers get ptsd... Not saying that some people don't fake it though...

10 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 7

When I went through evaluation for depression I got diagnosed with PTSD form growing up in a shit environment. I got discharged cause of it.

10 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Felt like the biggest piece of shit cause my buddies were getting ready to deploy and I was staying behind...we lost a guy too. Feels shity

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Not your fault, you didn't pull the trigger, and you weren't the candy-ass desk jockey who signed off on your discharge papers.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

That 'candy-ass desk jockey' could have saved the lives of his unit, if he wasn't capable of performing under fire.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'm sure I was fine. Army was at 120℅ strength....seemed fishy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's almost as if it's the "candy assed desk jockey" has a job to do, which involves making sure soldiers are fit to deploy.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

You got discharged? I work with a guy diagnosed and he just is medicated and regular therapy

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah, army was at 120℅ strength at the time and you couldn't even enlist in my mos and that was Infantry

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jeeze. I'm sorry man.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Plenty of people experience it. My wife included from an abusive childhood.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Did anyone say that only soldiers get PTSD?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Are we sure somebody didn't just make up fart rape as a parody to poke fun at feminists?

10 years ago | Likes 182 Dislikes 6

I think the fact that we can't be sure and we think there is an actual chance that it's not a joke really shows what we think of those peopl

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I mean that's literally what thigh gaps, bikini bridges, free bleeding, and a few other things started as.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I was gonna say, my girlfriend will laugh for hours if I float an air biscuit.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

I just don't say anything and go about my business since its natural instead of laughing at him. Unless on me then I'll laugh. And maybe run

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"float an air biscuit" +1

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what it was. Which shows you how dumb these guys are when they believe their own parodies.

10/10 mental gymnastics there.

I'd be inclined to think that's a parody, but the affiliation cited is the grad student union for my alma mater - they are quite radical. 1/

2/ and apparently the person is a Black Bloc anarchist organizer. So while I wouldn't necessarily believe it, I wouldn't discount it either.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I am a joy at parties. This isn't a party though... but I did bring balloons ..... Fuck

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ok but he did have ptsd though. It's exactly what he described. It wasn't ptsd from the military, it was caused by the murder of his family

10 years ago | Likes 1193 Dislikes 10

maybe that was the point? even though he was completely going through it he never wanted to admit it. The same way lots of veterans hide it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a difference between using PTSD as an excuse and dealing with it on your own terms. He didn't want to insult the ones dealing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought you were referring to the temporary PTSD guy for a second...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like how you know your Punisher trivia +1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think its more to do with the fact they're actually trying to fight it while he embraced it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, they even said he is constantly reliving the experience. It's basically PTSD 24/7/365 with no "good days"

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

great now i have to watch it AGAIN

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What show?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Daredevil. Netflix original.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact thats maybe not so fun. You can actually get minor ptsd from just about any relatively traumatizing event.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anytihng traumatizing can cause ptsd. But... somebody farting on a train isn't really traumatizing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another fun fact, the quote in the image description is from a man who lied multiple times and equated gun owners with misogynists.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also I recall some suggestions from professionals in the field that there's strong correlations between head trauma and PTSD.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't be arsed to go find the source of that, though, so grain of salt and all that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know about that, but I do know there is a very strong correlation with ptsd and nightmares. To the point where it may not even

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be considered ptsd without recurring nightmares

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can understand the sentiment though. I some messed up stuff as a medic while deployed, I don't have PTSD, but even if I did 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

there'd be hesitancy to use it as a defense. PTSD isn't a on/off switch, some people have it worse than others.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Actually, it definitely can come and go throughout your lifetime, unless that isn't what you meant.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Everyone has different triggers for it definitely.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, sorry, I mean the symptoms of it can come and go. My dad is 100% service connected with PTSD, but sometimes it seems like he isn't.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No I mean severity of the condition. This isn't to devalue anyone's experiences....but some traumas are worse than others.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but his lawyers didn't know or care about that; it was just a tactic to them. That's what he was objecting to.

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Exactly, he was objecting to the lawyer using PTSD as an excuse for his murders.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yeah but he didn't do what he did because of his PTSD which is what the defense wanted him to say. Using that as a defense would paint PTSD

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sufferers as potential time bombs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was disappointed that he diminished the events that took place. He was precisely suffering from ptsd and described it in detail

10 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 5

He didn't want soldiers to be compared to what he has become, by sharing labels with them.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's sort of what happens, though, to a lot of people. Not a lot of people necessarily have insight into the fact they have a problem.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Heh, or you get the real bright bulbs like me. Have it, but most days I won't even admit it to myself.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but Castle isn't the type of man to admit he has a problem...what with the gratuitous murdering and such.

10 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 0

He named his favorite rifle "Coping Mechanism".

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Clever, I named mine "Helena" (she who brings victory), cause it has yet to fail me.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's the point though. Frank Castle has had horrific trauma and can't actually deal with it. (Mass murder isn't 'dealing with it')

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well he's dealing with it in his own way. Who are you to say mss murder isn't therapeutic?

It makes sense though, most people don't readily accept that diagnosis. He was thinking like a soldier, not like a grieving husband.

10 years ago | Likes 387 Dislikes 0

Soldiers are reluctant to be diagnosed with it. That is one of the factors that work against treating it.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah, they also mentioned, "It'd greatly help with your defense." which probably helped get this reaction from him about it.

10 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 0

haven't seen this yet, so I'll guess that he says something like "The only thing I need for defense is my 1911. When do I get it back?"
