A better shabu shabu broth addition: beef bones with a little bit o meat, one chopped garlic clove, 1/3 sliced onion (white or yellow)

This is what makes Imgur great! If this was a cookbook, I'd buy it instantly. Great tips like "remove the foam." More, please. Appreciated.

I love most Japanese food, but Chinese hotpot > Jap shabu shabu, and Chinese char siu tastes way better than Jap chasho. Same dishes but>

Japanese versions are less flavorful IMO. Chinese hotpot also has lots of insanely spicey varieties if you like spicey food.

Is it just me that thinks too many of these recipes are using sake? I usually just use mirin and they come out okay.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like adding red wine to tomato sauce. There's definitely another layer of flavor but it is still good without it. Do what works for you

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i prefer mirin. it's more consistent than sake

Shabu Shabu!! get fresh garlic (minced), daikon radishes (minced) and green onions to add to your dipping sauces (ponzu is my best)

I strongly recommend YT channel Peaceful cuisine. This guy does amazing Japanese dishes in case you need some visuals while preparing food.

To anyone not culinary retarded: Is this post worth using? Like, are those recipes easy enough to try or will I end up summoning Vlad the

All you need is a wish to make it. Really. Japanese food is about wish and patience. I would go with something easy if I was you. Good luck!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's pretty good yeah. All the from scratch recipes and stocks are legit

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes ! I am a huge cooking enthusiast and I have made some of these recipes before! However I usually use a concentrated dashi stock .

The Chashu recipe looks easy. You could add sugar and salt to the sauce to make the taste richer.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they're easy recipes. i've made most of these before.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I assume if you had all those amazing ingredients, what's the worst that could happen?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Impaler by accident because I can't be left alone with kitchen utensils?

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

As long as you live somewhere that has an asian grocery store nearby, the recipes are pretty spot on. Pretty easy too, so go for it.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yea. Hardest thing about this seems to be getting the right ingredients in your kitchen, especially the flavorings. But they taste so good!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've made some of these, and the instructions are accurate. Alot of these are very picky dished to cook. Timing can be key. 1/2

I find alot of japanese dishes challenging to cook more due to complexity than anything else... but damn they're good if I do 'em right.
