I used to know that, I've read more of your history than I have of our own, I read a book called a shovel full of Stars which was about the whole territories to state transition in your past and how it was Central to the slave state issue, I read that five times and I had forgotten this fact.

Texas, for context, does pretty well economically compared to other southern and red states, because Texas has an urban economic core in Austin, Houston and Dallas. t has demographically shifted to the left but political commandeering has kept the Republicans in control. With fair rules Texas becomes a blue state immediately so the Republicans in charge do whatever it takes to rig it

Look at a map of Oklahoma you'll see a protrusion that points to the west. It seems kind of out of place, almost like it would be better to add that to the top of texas. Well, the reason they gave it to Oklahoma instead of keeping it for Texas was because that little strip of land was north of the 36°30' parallel which due to the Missouri Compromise of 1820 would mean they'd have to give up their slaves.
They gave up more than 5.5k square miles of land just so they could keep their slaves.

The rule they're referencing deals with Securing a Quorum and details the whole thing about written permission slips, locking doors, and arresting and retaining absentees.
