Hello, Luna

Meet Luna. She's our 1.5 year old mutt and we don't deserve her. Our sin: we leave her alone. A lot.

We got her about a year ago, a few months after our son was born. We had the lovely idea that they would grow up together and be bffs. We have a huge fenced in back yard, I wasn't working at the time, we thought it was perfect. After a while our finances began to not meet up and I had to go to work. So for most days of the week she spend 10+ hours outside by herself. She barely gets the attention and interaction she needs. The days we are working we see her long enough to feed her and put her outside.

She's such a good dog. She's very well behaved, loves and is very gentle with our son(who loves her right back). She makes very few mistakes for the amount of attention she gets and is desperate for someone to give their time to her.

I need a solution. Giving her up is the last thing on my mind. I think pets are family and are with you till the end. My proposed solution: get her a doggy companion!...? I thought a good alternative to spending the nights alone and satisfying her social needs is to have a friend to spend it with. Plus, we'd be giving another animal a chance at a good life. I'm just worried I may be romanticizing the idea and might be making my problems twice as big.

So, to the animal experts of Imgur, what are your educated opinions?
