I am trying to quit smoking (I've so far gone one week without), but it's already becoming more and more tempting to stop at a gas station and pick up a pack.

Mostly I need help from those who have managed to escape the clutches of those little homicidal bastards. What helped you quit? What worked best? I can google this shit all night, but I mostly want responses from people who have gone through it here.

Any help appreciated--and here's a GIF of some random hot girl in return :)

I did push ups...

Simple, just don't.

I switched to electronic. Got an EVOD twist and haven't touched a pack in weeks. No carcinogens is a plus

Before I quit I kept a journal of every cigarette so I could identify my triggers. Then patches and chewing on a tooth brush.

get a proper e-cig, just reduce the nicotine liquid bit by bit until you only inhale the vape flavours. Then just quit.

meditation, cinnamon toothpicks, and determination

When I quit I smoked 3 packs a day. Cold turkey, put no nicotine in your body, no gum, etc. You made it 72 hours, the worst is behind you

E cigs. Coming up on a year with them. Still get to smoke, dont get the cancer or loss of lung capacity.

Cold turkey is the only thing that has worked for me... but I am also only a week in. Smoking is meditative, try to find a replacement.

I saw a doctor and got welbutrin. It really helped with the urges but had really weird side effects so be careful. That helped me quit (1/2)

successfully for 7 months but the urges never fully died. Started back up again when I moved to Paris.

keep your hands and mind busy for a few months, it's new hobby time.

Get an e-cig and some non-nicotine cartridges. Helps break the "cigarettes = feel good" reward circuit conditioning.

Cravings did die down for me after 2 weeks. Don't go places you smoke at. And chew gum, even if it's normal, non-nicotine gum.

Have sex with this woman.

Patches worked well for me. Also I used snus for a while then needed patches to quit that but it only took 3 days.

Clever approach OP... I think cats would've worked just as nice...

I wanted to grab people's attention, and nothing quite does that like a promising thumbnail ;)

Like I said, clever OP :)

switch to vaping healthier cheaper tastes better and people are more likely to look you in the face since you wont smell like ash

On the Chemical Dependency Treatment Road, many of my friends went with E-Cig Mods and tapered the nicotine content for inhalation purposes.

It took me YEARS to quit. Don't try and just smoke a couple a day, cold turkey or nothing. Need something for the oral fixation too.

And find something to do with your hands.

I doubt it. It was legitimate advice. People who smoke are used to holding a cig, without one they don't know what to do with their hands.

Nope, actual factual advice. I like to throw in the occasional straight forward comment just to confuse people.

One tiny bit of info that really helped me: The truly crazy irrational cravings don't last all that long. Maybe 5-10 mins. Wait them out.

Her name is Doutzen Kroes. You're welcome.

get some nicotine gum if you have to. takes the edge off. the cravings never go away 100% but you learn to cope with them. GL, OP!!!!

I stopped buying packs, and in no way counted the days/weeks on any form of social media (I see a lot of people do that) it's been 2 years

Start vaping.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whatever you do, don't pick up a pack. Get some nicotine gum or a patch. Nicotine is very addictive, but the crap in cigarettes is...

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

even worse.

The hardest part is that I'm on vacation and will be returning home tomorrow... where all my friends smoke. So I'm gonna be around it a lot.
