That's what I was going to say, they didn't evolve to think smells from the vet are normal. So he smelled something "wrong" with his brother and was scared about it.
But real talk on the yarn, it gets caught on their spiky tongue, they can't get the yarn out easily. The spikes point in, so to come out, the yarn has to go against them, while to swallow, it goes with them. If no one's there to help, they don't have a choice unless they can break the yarn somehow. And it can kill them, it gets wrapped up in their intestines, and yes it's an expensive surgery to get it removed.
TL;DR don't leave yarn out around your cats, it can kill them.
You are absolutely right. I also remember a foot of shitty yarn coming out of my cat when I was a kid, with the cat dragging it all over the house in a panic...

"When my wife gets home from the Dr's, I don't have to sniff her asshole..."
Right! I don't *have to* but I do it out of love.
HillOfBeans
I like his smile. Good stuff!
HisBubbliness
But the fact that they ARE furry little dum-dumbs is why we love them.
rijstewafels
Dave Grohl when he didnt become a rockstar
darthstormer
"They're furry little dum-dumbs" truer words have never been spoken.
graceinsheepsclothing
That's cause they can't spit it out. They have to keep swallowing. My cat ate dental floss.
DanceCommandersReadyToSin
Reminds me of Michelle Wolf
SarcasticComment
people tell me house cats have the hardware to thrive in nature, but I struggle to see how mine would last 72 hours. They're just so dumb.
iusedtodream
Outdoor ferals are lucky to make 2 years. They do not generally thrive.
VerySmallDuck
Kitty's brother recognized him, but he smelled like the vet's and it freaked him out. Probably took 2 days for the smell to fade.

"I don't have to, but I still do" he said 48 hours later
ItHappenedInThe20thCentury

Shocked it took 4.5 hours for this. Their tongues are barbed backwards for grooming. In mouth = in stomach.

What pet surgery costs $1.8 million?!
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
Pretty sure he was exaggerating for effect.
tinybartender
This is called comedic hyperbole.
SirSage
Well if that isnt the epi-tome of hyper-bole
distractedFreek
Little bit of Bobcat Goldthwait energy in him.
TexMexHex
If bobcat and Patton had a child
jayman0123
Probably less coke too

and he looks remarkably like Dave Grohl.
Affray
He looks like a slight caricature of Dave Grohl. Bit bigger jawline but yeah, it feels like a different person speaking from Grohl's face.
BeccaBeccaBoBecca
I thought the same thing. They could easily be brothers or first cousins.
