I really liked the first season and then as it went on I liked it less, but I think it's because I felt so much empathy for the Blackadder character himself. His life just gets shittier and shittier in each iteration.
I couldn't watch Frasier anymore for the same reason. Just seeing these two characters get tortured every episode ... it got kind of exhausting
Season 1 is good but it's not hte same as Black Adder's other seasons. No one season is quite like the others though the second and third are probably the closest in tone and direction. 1 is certainly the series finding its legs. Two and Three are those legs found and are both really well done. Four is much bleaker in tone, the humor way more gallows, and it shines because of it. Finding humor in WW1 is not an easy row to hoe but it really is Black Adder at its best.
Usually I like the season 1s that people don't. Parks and Rec for example. Black Adder season 1 is just mostly terribly boring, with a few standout moments.
The last season is the best in my opinion but you need to watch the others to fully appreciate the call backs and connections to get the full experience

I came to say this. Brian Blessed is a joy to behold. I also loved that Lord Percy, Tim McInnerny, came back in series 4 to be Captain Darling, and Rik Mayall made guest appearances as Lord Flashheart in both series as well.
