" This is my assistant Maegan. When the winter storm hit, what was supposed to be a business trip to Philly turned into several members of my team hunkering down at our house for the weekend. Maegan has lived her entire life in Florida, and this was her first time seeing and touching and hearing and smelling and experiencing snow. It was something I will never forget. At a time when people are so angry and the news is so horrifying and everything feels so heavy, we have to remember that there is still joy. There are people falling in love, babies being born, the sound of children’s laughter, dog (and cat) snuggles, the perfect chocolate chip cookie, and dreams coming true. Like seeing snow for the first time. My wish for you is to experience this kind of pure joy. I didn’t realize how much I needed it, and who would’ve thought I’d find it in the middle of a snowstorm. May we all be a little like Maegan. ❤️"

I always forget that snow has a sound. Or lack of sound. Muffled everything. I’m used to it growing up in CNY, but my southern cousins always get unnerved by it. It’s peaceful.

Being a tropical country resident, I've experienced snow for the first time when I was 24 in a vacation trip. It was amazing. I played like a child. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I live in the PNW which is home to the cascade mountain range. One of my favorite childhood memories was a woman my mother was hosting at our home for a week or two during a hot summer in July saw Mt Rainier and was genuinely shocked and confused as to why it was white and wouldn't believe us when we told her it was snow.

I distinctly remember being 8 years old and my older brother digging a hole into a snowbank just to throw me in it and fill it back up. It's sad to think about people who missed out on snow-filled childhood.

I've lived with snow my whole life, but didn't get to see the ocean up close until I was 23, or swim in it until I was 30. And I know people have reacted to my unfamiliarity with the ocean the same way. But, yeah, I have always been around snow.

As someone having never experienced a year in life without months and months of snow, it's always amazing to me to think soooooo many people have never, even traveling, experienced snow in their lives.

Lived in an area of California where it never snows. Got snow one time when I was 6. That's it. Then I moved to Montana when I was 18. The locals always complain about the snow and say I'll hate it too some day. Been here 10 years and still get so excited every time it snows. Maybe not quite as much as her though

As someone who lived in western washington growing up, this is how I feel about people who have never seen the ocean or mountains. Some of my friends from the south came to visit for the first time and they've just never seen either.

I grew up in Southern California, and I didn’t experience falling snow until I was 25. But I guess plenty of other people have never swam in the ocean like I did growing up.

Not until I was 30, in the South China Sea. I stuck my hand in the ocean for the first time in Alaska about 6 years before that, my first time at the ocean shore, but that was not a time or place for swimming. I did grow up swimming in Lake Ontario though, and got to sea the "ice volcanoes" in winter, when there are big floating bits of ice with holes that shoot up water when a wave hits them right.

that's a bit different. The majority of humanity lives within a day's ground travel to a large body of water while the vast majority of humanity lives in climates that never experience snow.

Yeah, and the vast majority of people don't get out as much as they should. For various reasons. But in the US, people would be less obsessed with "coastal elites" — and racist country hicks too — if they travelled a bit more and spoke to more people. Doing so works against political polarization, so it's disincentivized, either directly through messaging, or by making it impossible to have any time to do anything other than work. So, go on a roadtrip somewhere.

Yes!! My sister in law had never seen the ocean before, until she visited us in California. Before then she was in Colorado/New Mexico area. She said “it’s just so….so much. It’s too much.”

My brother in law was the same way having grown up in Nebraska. He married into our family that would always go to Destin, FL every year being from Atlanta. I think that was the first time (24 years ago) that I realized some people had never seen the beach. Kinda blew my mind.

Yeah, as a canadian I see snow more than I see most other types of weather. I still love seeing fresh snow, its still quite eerie to me when the conditions are right but otherwise i really take it for granted

I can definitely see climate change happening. I live in the South US and growing up, we got snow maybe every 4-5 years. Now, we can usually expect at least one snow event in January (like we have right now). My kids are growing up with more snow than I ever did and I've lived in the same State my whole life!

Keep your shoes on! You can play with snow in tee-shirt & shorts for a while. Barefoot ends the fun quite quickly.

I go out in snow in my bare feet almost every day there's snow. It's exhilarating. And yes, it's cold and no, I didn't have great circulation that makes it not hurt, it's just a fun winter pain that goes away. Go play in the snow! 🤍

Bare handing snow makes my hands itch like they're on fire somehow and warm water makes it 10x worse afterwards. I wouldn't dare do that to my feet
