Here it is. 5 gallon bucket of rocks as the counterweight.
Started with a base.
Made the sides, and designed them to be detachable.
Got a used weightlifting bar off Craigslist to use as the fulcrum.
"finished" product.
Took it out to the desert to launch it. For those wondering, no, it doesn't go 300m. More like 30.
xMOISEx
Where at in the desert? Off 395?
DevinCastellucci
Your sling is too long and you should bend your nail/pin closer to straight. It's releasing at the wrong angle. PM me for more info.
AdrenlinHit
If 10th grade taught me anything, Add wheels to the base.
MorgulTheFriendlyDrelb
How do you control the angle of release?
TimothyGodfrey
sell these to trump-I'm sure he will find a use for them
TrafalgarAtreides
I can fap to this.
PRDWRaven
WE SHAL TAKE JERUSALEM!
Crimpwithyourthumb
What releases the other end of rope thing?
KillSteal
*DEUS VULT INTENSIFIES*
edisrevir
Rope is too long
schtev55
Bucket stops before sling releases, make counterweight stationary, shorten sling, could also adjust angle of pin at the end of the arm
Randomice
Trebuchette.
MerToo
did you just assume its ethnicity? It could be Trebucheyennaenae
woozle
WellThatsOriginal
You waited a long time to use this gif perfectly. I give you
Yotarian
Get that catapult piece of shit outta here!
Ryebread91
@op we used several car battery's as our counter weight. Nice & heavy & you can add or remove some as you need for distance. (Theoretically)
Gotbread
A trebuchet is vastly superior to a catapult
KitsuneThunder
Trebuchets are the superior siege weapon
EvilCatCreations
My English teacher in high school had one that he kept IN the classroom it took up an entire corner. The thing was huge. 1/2
EvilCatCreations
It cleared an entire football field. He let me launch it while the rest of the class was trying to catch the wooden balls I was launching
boxesoftacos
Roses are red, soda comes in liters, a trebuchet is a mechanism that can launch a 90 kilogram stone projectile over 300 meters
kageboshi
Anyone else have a friend/relative/whatever that insists on calling this a tree bucket? UGGH
thedeg
Hahaha a friend of mine said tree bucket back when we played AoE II like 15 years ago
deletedeleteieatmeat
dang it now my joke is way less funny in my head :\
AmityvilleHodor
Couldn't rememberrrrr the greatest 'pult in the worrrrld, noooo, NO, this is a trebuchet!
KurtHamster
I like your style!
DaierMune
Farfulus
Ok... ive built a few of these but i never knew how to do the sling release part... can you show a picture to that piece?
johnnyratbastard
You better deliver a 90kg projectile 300m op...
IATTM
It's 1/10th the size, 30m is just fine!

IATTM
Can you throw a golf ball 3 times as far as a baseball, using the same motion?
johnnyratbastard
*Sigh* I suppose.
LordBogmonster
Did it launch a projectile 300m?
IATTM
It's 1/10th the size, 30m is just fine!
Falos
I feel like a check by Child Slaves would have made it more legit
ambispankterous
I am looking to make one myself. I have a sick passion for wood and throwing shit. This will compliment both.
Dartmuthia
Do it! It's a lot of fun.
tungusmadungus
I watched a documentary on Omni a few years ago, apparently the range increases if you put wheels on.
ReturnOfActionCheese
Well yeah, pushing it down range will do that.
Gythku
Helps balance by letting the weight drop straight down.
tungusmadungus
Of course! Thanks
theelvesoflothlorien
I love the smell of fresh plywood
IHuggedaCorgiToday
you realise there's 0% plywood in this right?
theelvesoflothlorien
Well OK 2 x 4's then
shitsandgigglesfor100
Just admit you like the smell of fresh wood
deletedeleteieatmeat
I love the smell of fresh balsa wood
theelvesoflothlorien
I do indeed.
rssplowman
Considering everything it looks like you had a decent launch. Flatter than I would’ve imagined.

rssplowman
Yay! Well done. +2 :D
Dartmuthia
Yeah, were figuring out how to get it to launch better. We certainly haven't achieved max throwing capacity
BanjosAreComin
Definitely more weight as your starting point. Like another user said, steel bucket and concrete perhaps?
Dartmuthia
Yeah, were gonna shoot for more weight next time. Also, changing the angle of the pin that holds the sling on should help.
BanjosAreComin
I am NOT an engineer but my second though would be to question the length of the sling. Would a shorter cord length increase the power?
Dartmuthia
I actually am an engineer (I have a bachelor's in mechanical engineering) and the answer is sort of... I think. A shorter cord supposedly 1/
lilbrother
I think your sling is too long. Use this! http://www.virtualtrebuchet.com/
Dartmuthia
That's super cool!
Goldenfoxengraving
More weight and shorter strings. I've built a few. Also try making the angle of the pin that the sling locks into adjustable and experiment
mjkosmic
@OP looks like you could stand to shorten the sling rope a little
MonkeyBoyLX
This was my first thought, too
HylianDweeb
Yeah, shortening the sling would give a better ballistic trajectory. Release angle in the gif looks mighty shallow.
