Auto reply with PayPal scam. They will run away or send you $1,000
JohnSnot
I have several co-workers who delete their e-mails when they get back from vacation. "They'll send it again, if it was important"
PrecogFrogOnALog
My union went on strike on my day off. Wish I'd had more notice. Wanted to change out of office message to "We're on strike. Good luck."
localsurfer
I literally have this on my out of office.
Noxnarie
In Finland you just leave work phone in work. And boss cant call you if you say that you wont take calls when work day ends/vacation.
makeSX
Yeah, well I got a company phone of my choosing and the company pays it all.. Tho the customers understand that I'm on vacation.
MrRegularPants
I was on a zoom meeting and my 5 yr old son told me he wanted to play as soon as I was done talking to my friends.
Comet260
Tell him that's OK not to be friends with co-workers.
mawqs
I'm a 41 years old kid and coworkers understand. Life is sweet.
Qualtagh
Aw, sounds like those kids have modern rulesets for avoiding online bullying. BACK IN MY DAY the rule was to lie about every personal detail
AkademicEpidemik
The 11 y.o. is going places…in his work-life and on holidays.
Svartsinn
She's right, though.
madeejit
Guy next to me took photos of his desk, keyboard, pot plant, shoes, stapler etm, and emailed them to himself before taking leave....
..."So many happy memories?" I enquired. "Nope, send me an email"..."Recipient mailbox is full"..."See ya in two weeks!"
datangryperson78
I’m on vacation. Phone and laptop are turned off. Heck, they are off at exactly 4:30 M-F and never on on weekends. I work my wage.
Ark161
autistic crow brain approves of these methods
LairDenizen
if your email was important to you please resend it to my boss@bosses-email. is also good for a laugh.
Grenateh
I can and have blocked people at work
Sweet.
NotAgainRichard
Imma do that.
usnerd55
In only 34 years, I will vote for this kid for President!
teddybearsucide
At my old job you could block people on Skype, but sadly their emails would still come through. But at least they couldn't see your status
servingmytimeinusersub
I work in a grocery store, if we clock out and shop in our uniform, we are not allowed to help customers.
Undumpable
A guy at my work had that. He said whatever was important would get another email after he got back.
Mugendramon
I do hate coworkers with this mindset
AceOfShovels
Can't imagine what kind of corporate bootlicking mindset you have then, but likewise I'm sure no one here likes yours
Nyissan
yep the two e-mail system works!
desenclos
Yep! “If you need my assistance after I return, please resend your email then.”
DrunkSincerity
I do kind of "block people" if anyone sends a mass email. I make a new rule that any email sent from them gets auto sent to my junk folder.
If I miss an email from that person I usually respond with. "Have you sent a mass email before? You're probably in my junk/spam folder."
I don't get into any trouble. People just get mad, maybe. I have run out of fucks to give.
ConvokeMyropolist
I'm stealing the Out-Of-Office message. Thank you kid. I owe you a non-sugary ice cream.
Leleanor93
Setting my OOO for my maternity leave was great. It says I will probably be back next summer.
Sarve336
I stopped using auto away since I get a lot of mails from backup systems that creates an infinite mail loop if responded to (by the AA)
paigeofmusic
I will tell my boss that I won't communicate directly with someone because I feel that I may cause further stress on the situation. 1/2
AKA if I have to reply to one more email from this idiot, I will lose my shit and tell her how stupid she is. 2/2
palonoctisursa
I’m seriously considering getting a burner phone that’s turned off during the weekends. If work wants my personal # they can pay a premium
Bystandr
In many places - especially the EU, this is not just acceptable, but expected.
DancingSwine
When I’m on vacation I just cease to exist in the same dimension for my colleagues and boss
Fryfryfryfry
Yep, I might leave an entry in the shared calendar about my absence but that's about it
ElviraQueenOfDarkness
My OOO when i used to work for the police was : "in case of emergency call 112, is no one else can help call The A-team and 1
If there is something strange and you dont know who call the ghostbusters.
TheHolyFatman
So ..any of you EU countries hiring? I work for an electric company, lots of experience! Grid will need upgrades to handle a/c! Get at me!
ElFreakoDiablo
My boss on my last job told me to put my OOO message on whenever I finished my shift.
JacarandaTree36
Yeah, I just returned to work after a year of maternity leave. 1002 unread emails -> select all -> mark as read. *BOOM*
Shit. I was off for six weeks due to surgery and had like 1400 emails. All marked read. Was past. Needed future.....
Shaodyn
European away message: "I'm on vacation, see you in two months." American away message: "I'm about to go under anesthesia for kidney
surgery, I'll be available again in two hours. Leave me a voice mail if it's urgent."
TarmenAmzarian
Many emails will be deleted after 90 days following GDPR rules, but do you have that long of a vacation?
purplehexagon
I think this applies only for the private sector?
Not what I was commenting on. Many EU countries have laws that allow you to disconnect from work, and saying you will autodelete emails
gives warning for people to contact someone *NOT* on vacation. Better for business. You can also have such a greeting AND set your email to
auto forward - again to someone at work so your email doesnt go unanswered.
I'm a full time government employee in an EU country, and I definitely am not allowed to do that, but you might be partially right.
boston460
I always write a version of 'I am on leave from date to date. Please contact this person if you need assistance.'>
Then delete all when I get back. If they didn't contact the alternative person, there problem obviously wasn't that important.
AccountCreatedToUpvoteDogs
But.... My first day back I'm basically paid to read those emails! Easy first day back!
MysticalPidgeon
somnif
Must be luxurious to actually have an alternate person for your role at your job....
itsthevoiceman
Best to get more pay, then. Or a different place of enjoyment t.
That sounds like a management problem, not a you problem.
cheeseguy3412
Oh no, not at all. I do have an alternate person, but they won't be able to help beyond pointing them at someone else. /1
Others actively avoid learning whats involved in my role. 3 people have quit when asked to do so, and my manager flees from info /2
It gets old, but at least it means that I get mostly left alone beyond the usual task spam. /3
fantastapotamus
That is what I'm after this time around. Last 2 jobs have been me as a solo IT department and, let me tell you, it suuuuuucks. 1/
Having all the power to do what is needed when I need it is nice, but never being off gets real old, real fast. 2/2
Nathanfake
You never get off?
Arbitrarynamehere
Organize your workplace, you can get 100% participation
tiagogafe
Kids are so fun before they understand social rules.
l0calh0st
You mean the dumb idea that you should sacrifice yourself to work. In the civilized world ceasing to exist on vacation is the norm.
AleksStark
This is actually my social rule though. My vacation isn't a delaying tactic.

We block people at work. When they show up angry we let them vent. And then we go visit them at their work, ask for their boss, and request
That the person never steps foot in our company again. Suddenly we get free doughnuts and coffee and an in person apology.
But they're still blocked lol
Pointing fingers, getting upset, swearing, yelling, staying how unacceptable everything is, how stupid everyone is. No one needs that.
One person can rattle a lot of people. That's all anyone talks about for the day, and no one can focus. The disruption is huge.
DaemoniKira
I still enjoy when they're adults and they don't understand them. Social rules are mostly there just to make others feel comfortable. F them
Sickmindsmakehistory
As a girl with autism most of the rules are actually uncomfortable. I rather be genuine and sincere than applying some "social" rules
IHaveAGuyForEverything
Rules are made to be broken. I literally block my Slack notifications and remove work email from my phone when on holiday.
B99Reactions
Thats not a rule that you broke, thats not kniwing how to setup your device to not notify you on non business days n holidays
qwertdeep
We need approval from directors or managers to put work email on our phones and then we need to install an app on our device, no thanks. /
I have slack on my phone so that I can answer any messages whilst I try to nap at work
CitizenPrime
Oh wow, how rebellious
eggmuffin
Americans are so funny before they understand healthy, professional relationships. Vacation is sacred.
shmerdaburrdaburr
Jesus. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve had to call out coworkers for working on vacation. Get the fuck off slack. Your PTO is /
scheduled through next week. I yell at myself if I even think about work after shutting down.
