Nah, there are aspects of socialism which are good, there are times where socialism should be applied, and there are times where free markets and capitalism are better. Excludable, rivalrous goods are generally best in a free market - people aren't really benefited if, say, furniture-making is socialized.

Thats Social Democracy, not Democratic Socialism. While their aims are very similar, their end goals are vastly different. Social Democracy seeks to change the capitalist system to be more humane through the use of government, regulations, and public safety nets where Democratic Socialism ultimate seeks to move to a post capitalistic society.

100% agree. I agree with a lot of anarchist/leftist ideas too but when they talk about how we need to "burn it all down" "destroy capitalism" or whatever that always seems like a non-solution... what system will we build after we burn it all down? Some sort of democratic socialism seems the best idea to me, and maybe we should just start building that system, right now, incrementally, as much as possible, without the mass suffering and death that a total collapse/revolution would cause??

The thing that has constantly baffled me about the American push against tax funded healthcare is that it would "cost thousands of jobs in the private health industry."
