Dad was a great guy who lived a nice life. He was very sick and isn’t suffering anymore. But I’m not ok.

Welcome to the Dead Dad Club, it hits us in different ways. May he rest in peace. Here's the George Carlin bit that helped me when my dad died:

My condolences. Please be patient and loving with yourself during the grieving process. Remember the good times with your dad. ❤️

I am sorry for your loss …it’s too soon to process the layered feelings, and initially you’re expected to be involved in arrangements, and the logistics of what happens next. I would think the moments of sorrow and acceptance will come incrementally…
I hope so at least Peace, rest, and clarity to you

I am also suffering and feel for you. We are all on this ride together and it really is hard sometimes. Just take care of yourself and others when you are able. Don’t ever make it harder for others. That’s what I’m telling myself to get through this.

Sorry OP. =( truly i am. Take comfort that he's no longer suffering and now lives on in your memory for all time.

I am so sorry my friend. Happened to me two years ago. I know that numb. And I also know it doesn’t get easier for a while. Having a parent die is a paradigm shift and it’s hard to adjust. In the words of my father “I love you today”. Seek out love and small ways to keep their memory alive. That’s the only salve.

I love you today.

You have my sympathy. Nobody can tell you how to grieve properly, ever. It effects us all differently. I hope those words can help you through this time.

It can also affect you differently from loss to loss. Sometimes it's immediate, sometimes it's a month. You'll never know until it finally hits you. For my grandfather, I went awhile without a reaction until one particular photo with him smiling set it off.

I personally think the delayed grieving is some sort of evolutionary trait so someone is able to think clearly and do the needful while others grieve in a sort of rotation.

I came here after my dad passed. The community helped me come to terms with the grief.

My heart hurts with you, @op. Sending love and comforting energy your way. Your feelings, or lack thereof (currently) are valid. It's ok to have mixed and complicated thoughts and emotions. You aren't alone, and you are loved.

I'm sorry, @op. But I'm glad you had a good dad and it sounds like you hopefully had a good relationship with him. Sending you hugs 💙 Take care of yourself. You'll feel things when you're ready.

Been there buddy, it hit me a few days after the funeral. Had a good long cry. Stay strong, you are not some monster with no emotions, it just takes a while.

I'm sorry he's gone. I'm glad he loved you and that you loved him, that he was a person worthy of your love and grief. I don't know you but I wish I could hug you right now. My condolences and love to you and your family.

Sorry for your loss, bud. It’s going to get rough for a while, but time makes it better. Good luck

I'm sorry OP. Being numb is a very normal reacting to have at first. Don't be hard on yourself. I'm a numb sad person myself. Doesn't mean I don't care and I don't think it means you don't either.

:( sorry to hear. I’ve been there and it’s tough but it does get better with time. Just rest easy knowing that he’s not suffering anymore.

@OP, one part of me is saddened by the loss of an obviously decent man. Another part envies you, that you had the kind of relationship where you are saddened by your father's death. Wish I could say the same.

I sincerely empathize with you. My Dad had a massive heart attack on Christmas day and I gave him chest compression's 'till the wonderful paramedics arrived. The tough old boot survived that aged 90 but passed away a month ago. Went in with pneumonia but diagnosed with the big C and he passed away without knowing and not in pain. We buried him on Tuesday and this has honestly been the longest week of my life. I'm numb too. Christmas will never be the same now. Sorry if this hasn't helped.

Love to you too. I hope you have some support around you.

Thank you kind stranger, I really appreciate that. The day I had to tell his grand-kids their cherished Granddad had passed away turned into a morning of sharing humorous stories about him. We all knew deep down it was coming. Without family I suppose we are small. Happy Christmas (or holidays) though to you and those you love.

My dad passed away 2020. Diabetes. The worst thing about it isn't that he is dead. The worst thing is there is just no more chance to talk to him. I wish I can see him just ten minutes, talk to him one last time and say a proper goodbye.

It’s okay to be numb that’s how you personally will probably get through the next month or two. When my dad died unexpectedly last year I cried a few times but not as much as I thought I should have, I started feeling almost bad I wasn’t responding to my dad’s death. I didn’t realize I had been in survival mode for two months trying to pick up all the pieces of the business and helping aid my family that I forgot about myself. Well it’s 2 months later I’m in the local hardware store 1/2

2/2 my dad was at all the time. The woman at the register takes one look at me and goes you’re Donnie’s son arnt you? You look just like him, he talked about you all the time, he was so proud of you. I’m so sorry to hear… I got back to the car and ugly cried for an hour straight in the parking lot it was uncontrollable, but after it was relieving. I guess what I’m saying is you’ll go through this however you will, there’s no one way. But don’t forget to take care of yourself too. Wish u the best

Sorry for your loss internet friend. When my dad died it took a day or so for it to fully sink in. The grief will come. Don't try to force it or fight it. Take the time you need. Remember the good times and try to forgive any bad.

Yeah. It's been nearly 15 years since mine died. T be perfectly honest, I was absolutely gifted when it happened. I've learned so much about him, and remembered things I wish I didn't, that I don't miss him at all anymore. I know this can seem insensitive.

Gutted, not gifted lol

Not at all. Not all parents are good parents.
