1800's Gun Powder Flask

Once covered in leather, this was used to carry gunpowder. The military versions are much more desirable but I think this civilian one is still cool!

Substitute for shin plasters token

Is this stuff fairly valuable and worth money or more valuable in a historical sense?

Most of the old copper coins aren't worth very much, less than $20. However a silver coin or even gold (yet to find) can be very valuable!

That being said, I don't sell my finds, just keep them in a display case to enjoy!

They're a pretty common find in the north east! Though, most of the dectorists I know don't sell their finds!

I might be able to find one if I go up into the hills near Sacramento. Any suggestions for a noob detectorist?

When you detect something how far down do you usually have to dig to find something?

Most finds are in the place I dig (forests and fields) are within 8-10 inches.

State & national forest is illegal, I hunt on private property with the permission of the landowner

The machines these days make the junk:treasure ratio pretty worthwhile. No junk at all if you're in a secluded spot and choosy with targets!

That was also my initial thought, but I was detecting an 1800's cellar that since 1929 resides underwater, the gun is from the same era.
