You misunderstand his deep criminal roots, as he wants you to. Don't get me wrong, he's simple and sociopathic, but not quite stupid. Sarah Kendzior describes this tactic at length in her book Hiding in Plain Sight. A deeper understanding of his history and psychology makes these tactics pretty obvious, and the media plays right into his hand.
