2014 Jeep Cherokee + Plasti dip = black out beastlyness

Here's my first Jeep (haters keep it shut).

This is stock and I felt like it was a bit too much chrome for me.

Here's the obligatory after pic. Definitely happy with the results.

Grill inserts

Here's the chrome grill inserts. These were super easy to remove , just 2 bolts on each accessible from under the hood. Masked the center with off the shelf blue painters tape. This is around 4 coats.

Badge 1

Here's the Cherokee badge on the door. after a few coats. I left a bead of water inside the "O" and it was something that had to deal with but in the end drying it up and hitting it with another coat or 2 worked fine. also around 4 coats in this picture.

Probably over masked this but hey I was having fun.

Here's the Jeep badge on the front. These are available in styles other than chrome online but this was some of the easiest work I did and dip is much less expensive.

Wheels

Yes I did remove my wheels for painting to preserve the chrome on the lugs. Also, I used the index card method to protect the tire from over spray. It saved lots of time I highly recommend it.

Here's the after in the sun getting it's cure on. Of course I put them on car too early and had to do touch up later. Patience is a virtue when working with Plasti dip etc.

I brought my wheels indoors to finish drying over night. This day humidity was pushing 90+% down here in Louisiana and I was trying to get these to dry within my life time. I left a very textured mat finish on my wheels so I couldn't really tell you if the humidity adversely affected the finish.

Day 1

Here's a shot with the tires on. I was really happy with the look but the chrome trim just isn't quite my style.

Day 1 end.

Looking good so far but that trim has got to go.

Day 2.

I ended up masking for about an hour and a half only to find out I missed a few key spots. Everything came out fine but it took a bit more time to peel the dip than it should have in a few spots.

Too late to turn back

First coat on. It wasn't until now that I realized I was really doing this.

gloss or flat the ancient question.

This is 4 coats of black in and my 1st coat of gloss. I wanted the trim be just that and not stand out too much. I thought that the glossy dip would allow it blend into the paint a bit more.

Good ol Plasti Dip.

Unmasking passenger side. So far so good.

Here's the driver side with garbage bags removed.. it took me about an hour and a half to peel all the dip off.

Here's the rear jeep badge. I did also black out the latitude badge. I was thinking of removing it but plasti dip is just so much less permanent.

Badge 3 and grill inserts

This was probably the easiest and most rewarding peice i did. That chrome grill was just too much.

Here she is. Looking good and dangerous, just like I like em. Also, this took a long time but was very inexpensive and the best part is you get to peel plasti DIP! seriously that shit should be on /r/oddlysatisfying.
