Unpopular opinion here - labor unions should be as strong as police unions. But if you take that and carry it over to ANY other profession, keeping people who screw up the job seems insane. Airline pilots drinking on the job? No prob, union protection. Restaurant workers not washing their hands? No prob, union protection. Auto workers not tightening bolts to required spec? No prob, union protection. Pharmacists snorting adderall on the job? No prob, union protection.

We all know the answer already, but the question that needs to be asked anyway is: why didn't they get charged with serious crimes for destroying evidence? Destruction of evidence isn't some minor detail, it's a huge problem that undermines that core of proper application of justice.

This is called spoliation of evidence, and if anyone else did it, they WOULD. At very least, the judge could order the jury to assume the missing evidence was damning when making their verdict.

Not nearly as bad as how the cops got the last DA fired because he chose to prosecute a cop who, on his 3rd day, was in a car chase, the guy stopped and started to run away, so the cop opened his window, pulled out this gun and shot the guy in the back. Another cop arrested him. The Police stopped arresting shoplifters and car vandals (I watched them ignore one instance) until the DA got recalled. The new DA dropped charges (and on another cop who was blatantly guilty). I give up on sfpd.

most police "unions" are not unions at all, they're typically more like fraternal organizations or mutual aid societies. If you have management in your union or you cross picket lines of other unions, you're not really in a union.
