Here is Tumilik
She's a rescue from Inukjuak, northern Canada. Born on the tundra as a sleigh dog. She was found abandoned, injured, and left for dead, hiding inside a discarded tire. Someone working up there noticed polar bears roaming around that specific tire for a couple of days and decided to go check..she found her, barely alive, at about 6 weeks old.
And she ended up here. With the help of the Imgur community, she was able to get all the surgeries needed to fix her broken rear right leg. And today, she's living very happily.
She's a mix of nine breeds of dogs, including Malamute, Labrador, Golden Retriever, Husky, Canadian Eskimo, Chow Chow, and... wolf. She's an intense, very high energy girl, with a very, very, very strong prey drive. Doesn't like summer much, but absolutely loves the coldest of winter.

Got her a treat once, and was told that it was the strongest, hardest, most durable thing they had in stock. Not a big seller because it is very hard, we were told. It was supposed to last about two weeks. Maybe a bit more, depending on the dog. Very expensive, but durable, so worth it in the end.. apparently.
She finished the entire thing within 2 hours.
She couldn't care less about hockey.

Government assistance programs often stipulate frequent audits on recipients, so the IRS is -forced- to audit a bunch of people at the bottom like you and me, leaving them with far fewer resources to get to the ones at the top, even though that's where the highest ROI is. The IRS needs more funding, but if public perception is "they target the little guys and let the mega wealthy go free" then it becomes so much harder for them to get it. Those are confident people. A lot of the roads where I live don't have bike lanes, so you get to choose between the sidewalks and the roads. While it is technically illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk, the drivers where I live take traffic laws as guidelines, so I take the sidewalk. It keeps me from getting rear-ended.

The short answer is cyclists ride where they feel safest - bike lanes with inadequate separation from the road can be dangerous, taking a left turn can be dangerous, street sweepers can make bike lanes dangerous (one of my all time near misses came from a street swept nail), bike lanes next to parking can be dangerous (another really scary one), bike lanes around turns can be Really fucking dangerous, bike lanes near stop signs or controlled intersections can be dangerous...

but many many of us with a ton of experience riding have had multiple near death experiences with inattentive drivers and poor road conditions.
I was riding in a bike lane, with parking on the other side, and a lady going thirty saw a spot and forgot about me as she swerved to park. I saw her coming and had to ride full speed into the curb and crashed hard on the sidewalk.

If I hadn't, it would have been a life changing injury or worse. She was chill, but there's plenty of drivers out there (I've encountered some of them too) who will get really aggressive if their inattention puts you in danger - they're just pissed.
I had a cab change lanes suddenly into the lane I was (no bike lane) and then pursue me in traffic. Luckily, there was a lot of traffic and I was able to pop to the sidewalk. I don't know what they wanted, but it felt like they were out for blood.

Back when I rode a bicycle a lot, I usually used the bike lane if there was one, with one major exception: a winding downhill road right next to a sheer drop off of a cliff, and the bike lane there was more pothole than pavement. It was also a steep enough hill that I could go at or slightly above the speed limit when taking the lane.

I had to work in Copenhagen for two weeks. As soon as I saw the biking infrastructure I rented a bike and didnât get in another car until I had to go to the airport. It was fantastic in my opinion.

I rarely see bike lanes in better nick than the roads. Mostly it's a too-narrow painted line at the edge full of the shite cars fling to the side (gravel, mud, leaves etc), and people park in it. Even when it's a really nice, properly segregated, cycle path blocked off from parking it goes _behind_ the stop line at junctions (like a pavement) so I have to slow, check for upcoming cars, and frequently stop because they assume they have right of way.

If it's a stretch that takes a route completely separate to the roadway, so I don't have junctions or crap thrown across by cars to worry about, then it's normally vastly preferable but drivers don't _see_ me using it. And a lot of _those_ stretches have much higher incidents of mugging etc anyway, so some people tend to avoid when riding solo.
If you want cyclists to use it, it has to be faster _and_ safer (in terms of traffic and crime) than just being on the road.

The best ones I have seen, which I use all the time when in the area, are separated from the road by just a kerb (which stops a surprising amount of the crap, and nearly anyone from parking in it), are road-swept regularly, have road markings which clearly designate them as part of the road (not pavement) at junctions, and have cameras on junctions and fines for cars that obstruct the cycleway on approach.
Or are grass-segregated alongside long stretches which don't _have_ junctions.

if there is no bike lane, then usually the middle of the vehicle lave is safer than the side of the road because nobody is gonna blow past you at top speed. the real problem with bikes (and motorcycles) is when they weave in and out of traffic and drive between cars to get right up to the light when the cars are stopped

Bicycles weaving past cars to get to the front at a red light is also legally recommended. Lots of traffic lights over here have bicycle-only sections at the front in fact. Everyone gets through faster if the bicycles all filter to the front and go together in one go when the light turns green, rather than being scattered between cars

I think there is a hierarchy to users where the more vulnerable get the right of way on normal streets and there are better roads for different users.
Yield to the blind, elderly, and handicapped; then to other pedestrians; then to bicycles (especially when kids are in the mix); then to motorcycles; then to semis and large vehicles (theyâll mess you up and they have a harder time negotiating traffic); then to all other cars; then to Segways, unicycles and other nonsense.
