There's a radio program out there that does mostly call in and every time they get a truck driver caller, they thank them for their service keeping the country running, I always liked that. Being used as an excuse to try to take away from people that are already marginalized I do not like.

I’m not a veteran, but I had family who served in WWII and Korea. I agree that hero worship is culty and weird, but I’m glad we have days set aside to honor the service (Veterans Day) and sacrifice (memorial day) of all of our friends and loved ones. Remembering is important.

Women's day is an entire corporate machine with branded merch, constant advertisements and a huge cultural impact. I think it helps to not look at Pride Month as a celebration as much as a remembrance and reinvigoration of the work yet to be done. In this way, it makes the lack of a "straight pride month" more easily understandable: there's nothing to memorialize on their behalf, nor is there a work specifically regarding them that has yet to be accomplished.

The thing about "Straight pride" is what's the end goal? It's just marching down the street every year saying "I'm straight!" The end goal of pride is to one day not need pride, To be in a society where having the parade seems as silly as having a straight one. We march until we no longer need to, to when we can look back at pride and have it be a time where we remember the ones who didn't get to see where we are now. Being proud is just the surface level, with straight it's the only level.

Hell, Irish or Italian festivals in the US aren't random pride in background events, they are the same thing as pride celebrations since they were the marginalized groups in the past too. The other counter for this is: It's not gay pride month, it's Pride month. Homosexuality is only one facet of what is celebrated in June. The whole idea is to have pride in who you are, whether that's gay, trans, straight, or cis. The reason you don't see more straight people celebrating is because they don't have to hide who they are are wonder if the person they are talking to will be cool with who they are. There's no reason to show pride in it.

If they weren't so corrupt and terrible, you wouldn't hear horror stories about thousands of veterans suiciding every year, living with incredible disabilities and pain, homelessness, drinking themselves to death to deal with PTSD, on and on.
