Here you can see it clearly flying over 75 feet in a straight line.
It's a flying gyroscopic spiral you can make out of paper.
Just about any paper of any size will do, however this size is optimal. About 3" in diameter.

However, if you want the best paper, I sell it at my website. It also has numbered fold lines for optimum geometry.
Look for 4 key characteristics for your Vortex-Star paper.
1) The paper must be heavy like card-stock. More mass = more kinetic energy. This rules-out most printer and academic papers.
2) The paper must crease along a fold line, not crumple. This rules-out most card-stock and construction papers.
3) The paper must hold an arc without crumpling, and be somewhat re-shape-able. This rules-out most printer and academic papers, as well as card stocks.
4) The paper must be smooth to reduce friction. The smoother the better.
Trust me, I have the best paper. Feel free to challenge me.

I'd recommend trying 1mm or less polypropylene sheet, semi gloss. Usually you can find it for free on the front of a binder

I 3-D printed one. It was far too heavy to fly. Presumably a lighter plastic or a foam toy would work.
