Hoxton mask tutorial. Halloween costume

I started with a plaster bust of my face. I then added bits of clay.
Make sure there is something solid under the plaster mask

slowly start shaping

Look up the tested channel on youtube. They interviewed a guy who made zoidberg for a convention. He also did a few tutorial videos on carving clay.

I had to cut off parts of the cheeks and re-carve them.

It took me around 50-60 hours to finish the clay.

Silicone layered. Make sure there is no over hang. If you look at the eye sockets you will notice there is an over hang. I had to fill the sockets to make sure the shell for the mold would separate.
My silicon work time was around 15 minutes and a cure time of an hour or so. This was a little longer than I would really want, but it did its job.

Resin and fiberglass cast. There are several tutorials for this. I recommend checking them out. For resin, I have a 2.5 minute work time. Anything longer and it would take too long to get done.
I also used mat fiber glass. It was super messy to work with but does give it a lot of durability.

It came out a lot better than I thought.

Started out with a little acrylic paint

a mix of airbrush and paint brush.

I found that acrylic paint chips of resin super easy. With a layer of gloss, the paint became much more durable.

Since my resin was not clear, I would have had to have bought more just to do a layer over the paint. But luckily the gloss held up.

The border of the mask is edge trim bought at an auto parts store.
I used epoxy to attach the webbing.

Whats not picture was some weather stripping inside the mask to make it a bit more comfortable.Because of the webbing inside of the mask, I couldnt easily fit my face inside of the mask. But the weather stripping worked really well.

2 inch webbing looks a lot better than 1 inch webbing, and makes the mask feel very solid.

The mask came out a lot better than I expected. I scared several trick or treaters so bad they ran away from my house. A few also cried, so It was a huge success.
