Former chef here. If you make rice in a pot, bring it to a boil first, then cover and turn the heat to low. Keeps it from burning.

You don't need one, wash the rice then fill the rice in a pot give the double amount of water to the rice, salt and let it with a lid cook 1

on low heat for 15-20 mins. After that loos the rice with a fork up and maybe add a bit butter
