A tumblr guide on how to adult (LONG)

If you ever want to adult then read this post. Or, read it now.

"But trust me on the sunscreen"

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

+1 for the pic. of Grunkle Stan.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not gonna lie; I read it all in his voice. Alex Hirsch should record some of these.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is great, but also depressing. Life is not easy as a young adult. Thankful for being past that part of life.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

For real. I'm just now able to keep a couple hundred dollars in my savings and it feels like a miracle (I'm almost 23).

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bake your own chocolate chip cookies. They will be far more delicious than anything you can buy in a package, & you can add extra chocolate.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Make sure you have a small amount of healthy snacks. Everyone gets hunger and lazy, so keep nuts or dried fruits. Not chips.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also fruit smoothies are easy to make and taste great. You don't even need to chew.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an adult, can confirm. Especially the part about life just having to suck for a while to get to the non sucky part. Power through it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

20% tip

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you hate something, remember to meditate on the 'why' from time to time. You might find out life is too short.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

instructions unclear, put dawn in my dishwasher

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow this must be the 15th time I have seen this on Imgur, I remember more each time I read it

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Prep any fruit or veggies you buy for snacking right away (add lemon juice to ones that go brown) then lazy you will actually eat them.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Great advice but you can totally mix acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Hospital gave that combo to me after childbirth.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Acetaminophen is really bad tho. It is put into other meds to prevent OD. Gov prefers people dying than some of them getting high on Oxy.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it is a great combo. drink some caffeine with it for the best headache remedy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I thought it was Acetaminophen or ibuprofen with Naproxen is a no no.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You shouldn't have more than one kind of NSAID at a time - but paracetamol works in conjunction and improves the effects of narcs and nsaids

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ibuprofen and naproxen is a no no. Tylenol with either is fine and effective

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Added to the list of Don't Buy Generic: TOILET PAPER. Never scrimp on the TP.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Generic ketchup and nyquil are fine.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Definitely generic NyQuil. The lovely thing about medicine is generics are just as regulated as name brand and have the same ingredients.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I actually prefer one particular generic nyquil over the name brand, it doesn't make me feel as loopy and works just as well.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish I read this last month. I totally put dawn in my dishwasher and the result is not good.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

financial planning and mortgages would have been nice 20 years ago

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It's never too late to learn ;)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did, the hard way, and 10 years too late

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you don't have a dishwasher, buy a dish wand. The kind that you can put soap into with a sponge on the end. Changed my life.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I love those things!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I seriously never have dirty dishes anymore!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

100% this

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But how do I do my taxes?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You just take your w2 to the accountant.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HOLY SHIT, TAXES ARE DUE.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Do not worry; Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Turbo Tax. Its as easy as "Do you have this form?" "Yes" "Cool! What's on this line?" "This amount" "Ite, moving on. What about this form?"

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Plus, if your taxes are super easy they don't charge anything.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It depends. If you don't have any weird income or deductions, print a copy of a 1040-EZ and follow the directions. Super easy.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pour some hydrogen peroxide in a sink of cold water to get out blood stains. This is what nurses do.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Plus it's fun to watch it fizz!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tip 20%. People rely on that money to pay for all the rest of the stuff on this list, and some of them also have kids. Seriously.

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 4

As someone who works in a restaurant, THIS. Always tip at least 20%, more if the service was great and you want to. But at least 20%.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Mmm in NS, servers make much more than minimum wage ($10.60), so tipping isn't as big a deal.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the service was good, 15% is a little stingy IMO. I thought this number went up with the times with 20% now standard.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

And on that note, either I'm a terrible waitress or no one has caught up with the times. >.<

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

20% is also easier to calculate, so the actual process becomes less frustrating: move the decimal point one digit to the left, multiply by 2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what I do! My best friend worked tables all through college so I've got a second hand idea of the shit situation they're in.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Move the decimal and multiply by 1.5... so hard...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously though, if you run out of dish soap, laundry soap won't destroy your house and will clean your dishes.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Lie about the generic. Kroger's peanut butter is the SHIT.

10 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 2

Agreed... but sometimes you had to check the ingredients. they put more sugar to make it more appealing. you compare what's the best for you

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I scrolled down after reading that to comment about Kroger products lol. Kirkland is also the shit.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I specifically go to Kroger to buy their generic. Kroger cheese curls are the most amazing edible thing that make Cheetos seem like poop.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Target brand of spaghetti sauce is better then name brand too.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kroger brand anything is pretty legit, honestly

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kroger Nutella/hazelnut spread wins, too!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only buy Hellman's mayonnaise. Expensive but worth it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

False. Duke's is the one true mayo.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh, lawdy, no

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lot of Malt O'Meal cereal is better than name brand too.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also never buy generic mac and cheese....

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You haven't tried presidents choice white cheddar

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you can get it, US govt peanut butter is also

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That still exists? I'm experiencing severe nostalgia at the thought.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My mom still tells stories about the taste, color, and packaging of Gubment Cheese

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can of Chicken?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"At two in the morning? Who is this?!"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Three*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what I thought! So bizarre.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its not the greatest but in a pinch it works. I have also used chicken nuggets to make chicken parmesan once.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a technical adult...(I'm 37)...this is all really good advice.

10 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 3

That ain't no technicality sir.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

leave me alone. I'm playing with legos.

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Well played

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In my defense...legos are fucking awesome. If anyone disagrees...I'll whoop their ass. ...and probably fuck their mom. Twice.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nice :) I'm an engineer so I'm an adult who loves Legos and the like as well :)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm with you, bro. '79 all the way.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

'78 here. get off of my damned lawn.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

'78 here as well. You have a lawn? You're more adult than I am.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Some of it is crap, though.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Bullion cubes, they're awesome. They're great. Buy cheap noodles and bullion. You have a much better alternative to top ramen.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please tell me your wisdom.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Journeyman adult here- all this is great advice. One more- buy your partner of choice his/her favorite candy every once in a while.

10 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 1

You're the real MVP

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My mother is practically addicted to Good and Plenty's. My dad buys them for her all the time.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Buy coworkers random cheap shit too, and share things that are easy to share, even if it's only gum or a pack of Skittles.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do this all the time. Swedish Fish or Sour Patch Kids. The look on his face when I hand it to him is amazing :)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*later that night* "Three minutes of ecstasy, several niiiights a month, you just me baby, if that is too muuuuch"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another one For dogs read ingredients in bags of food Don't get them anything that has corn potato or soy beans, that is really bad for them

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

is like you eating chips all day, everyday. even the poop is going to smell less, better hair, teeth and they going to live longer.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i did not know that. that is very excellent to know!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YES! Tiny things! Just do them. Do the dishes for your wife. Give your husband a back rub. Buy her some flowers. Give them the night off.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I gave my husband a back rub, and now my wife is jealous. Help, I need further advice!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even if it's just the $4 bunch of flowers from the grocery store. And do it for no reason, not when they're mad at you.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yep. I stop by the convenience store every once in a while and just grab a single rose or some carnations.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear: still single.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

hai

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Um... hi?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone that wants dickpicks and someone that knows how to drill? Match made in heaven

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Acetaminophen and ibuprofen at the same time is actually fine. Plus a few other things.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Acetaminophen will mess up your kidneys though if you arent careful *cough* in my Pharm class now

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I thought it was Acetaminophen or ibuprofen with Naproxen is a no no.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You don't want to mix NSAIDs. Tylenol with Aleve or Tylenol with Advil is fine. Aleve with Advil is not.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Too much acetaminophen and your liver will fail tho.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Too much of anything will kill you. Even water, or ogyxen. You'd need to take dozens of those pills to die; only those who want to go, will.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this is why I don't drink, I need to save my liver for pain pills (I often get some severe sinus headaches)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We'll be okay guys. I moved out because my mother died and it's been almost one year and I am doing okay as an adult.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Virtual hug. Adult is just an exponential amount of responsibility but lots of fun times too!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Absolutely true :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The dollar store battery thing is a lie. But other then that, fantastic advice.

10 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Thanks for saying this. I sold lighting/batteries for a few years and I tested ours vs. generic. Dollar store batteries are garbage.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So much this. They're not as good. Look at their mAh.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah that one irked me. Get some Eneloop rechargeables and never look back.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a lady with needs; absolutely.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use rechargables for slow drain things like controllers/remotes, but not motors, flashlights, or smoke detectors.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How is a smoke detector not low drain? Also with any high quality flashlights(Fenix, surefire, Thrunite) you should be using rechargables

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Low drain, but its probably a good idea to put good quality batteries in them

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Best thing I had in college was a George Foreman grill. Wasn't allowed but I cooked everything on it.

10 years ago | Likes 308 Dislikes 2

Awww yeah George foreman

10 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

I'm from Central America and started living alone in Kansas a few months ago, my George Foreman grill is mostly responsible I'm still alive.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I loved that lean mean fat reducing grilling machine!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My two main appliances are my George Foreman and my Pizzaz!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes! and you almost always see em at thrift stores.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Mine kept me alive when my shitty apartment management took 3 weeks to fix our broken stove.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

$8 Mr Coffee has been powering me through school. $6 bags of coffee easily overpower the expensive stuff elsewhere

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like between a George Foreman and a rice cooker (and some ingenuity) you can cook literally anything, at a low price too

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Exactly what I was looking for thank you good sir!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had one while I was in school....it stayed in the plastic bag. And has been for the last 4 years. But I also have a fullish kitchen

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like to set mine up on a timer at night so I wake up to fresh bacon every morning.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Just don't cook your foot!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I swear I'm feeling some deja vu

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Are you Michael Scott? Also it is healthy to leave bacon out all night

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yes, probably not, but it's also not safe to leave a George Forman at the foot of my bed either. I like to live on the edge.

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Also what if you oversleep!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you take all the stuff on your bed and throw it on the floor, you can live on the whole bed, not just the edge.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I smuggled my rice cooker into my dorm. Could make anything in the microwave except rice; it always came out like mush.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See, I used my roommate's hot-pot with minute rice. Added boiling water to an air tight tupperware and left it for 10-15 minutes.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're still great, as a 33 year old. Frozen burritos, hot pockets, anything like that… WAY WAY better Foremanned than microwaved.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree, I bought one a couple of years back and it sees regular use. Much more convenient than putting the oven or grill on & healthier too

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

twitch chat spamming GRILL everytime they see a female on stream

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Lately I've been making turkey burgers on mine. Pretty awesome.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This literally made my day, I've been feeling depressed because I'm moving out on the 1st and anxiety is killing me so thanks buddy!

10 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 3

You'll be okay :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

12 days ago I moved to a completely new city after living at home all my life... It is tough at first but you bet your ass you'll feel so

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks haha I appreciate the encouragement haha and kudos to you!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good advice I got was that if you see you are losing money by spending too much, change your lifestyle immediately don't get forced into it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Goddamn proud of yourself. I recommend taking something with you that reminds you of home (I took a teddy) & remember you cam do anything :)

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Can* fuck it

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks man! (Or woman!) I'm way ahead of taking a stuffed animal (I'm taking like 12) but thanks for the advice :D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm moving out pretty soon too. Trying to be optimistic and excited about what you'll be able to do has helped me cope at least a little.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

trust me, if I could do it earlier this year, you can do it! Believe in yourself!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree that being optimistic helps and so does actually understanding what's going on / going to happen haha

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't be afraid to call your mom/dad (I hope you have at least one of them) for advice on little things like all of the above. Best of luck!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

as a 30 years old male married since I was 22. Everything here is gold. Take all this in consideration it's going to save you a lot of pain.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also put 10% of your income into savings and don't touch it! Try to save a few months living expenses before using that 10% for other things

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Best Advice ever. It's the greatest safety net.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Moving out in less than a month, that's the thing I feel I'll have most trouble with. I am NOT good at setting money aside.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Literally transferring it into a savings account helps me. I think of my checking and savings accounts as completely separate entities.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to set aside 20$ when I could. Now I'm saving $600/month. You have to make it a priority.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sheer curiosity, has your pay increased or have you gotten better at saving? Cause that's quite the number gap

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My pay has increased and I married so the wife helps save money too.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes! Saving must be a priority. You need to have a safety net if something happens and costs a lot of money, like if your house burns down.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Talk to your bank. They'll normally agree to automatically deposit part of paycheck in separate account. That's the easiest way.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'M MOVING OUT ON THE 1ST TOO! I have nothing but my clothes, a towel, toiletries, a pillow and blanket. I stand with you in anxiety friend.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yay! Moving buddies! My family has been really helpful so I have a table and a dresser haha but not much else. I did by kitchen stuff so woo

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm moving halfway across the country haha (California to Nashville) so I couldn't take anything.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ahhh, makes sense. I'm just movie a few miles away. Have fun in the land of California though!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He/she is moving from Cali not to it :p

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get the basics at dollar and thrift stores. Upgrade later when you're more established and have a better idea of what you actually use/need.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How to handle anxiety solo is a whole separate thang, so... (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Short version: You want a dark, quiet room with video games/favorite show, but also go for a walk once a day. Drinking makes it harder.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thankfully I'm not old enough to drink haha but I am old enough to work 40 hours and go to school full time so pokémon is my hero

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good--I've know too many 15 year olds that self-medicated undiagnosed problems with drinking, all are lifelong alcoholics now.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget your towel.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A hoopy frood always knows where his towel is.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Weird, i cant wait to live alone

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tip: Anchor Hocking is a great brand for glassware (casserole dishes, mixing bowls, ect.) Wal-Mart sells it; great price for 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

great quality. Almost all of its products are microwave and oven safe.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's the most horrifying and wonderful thing ever. Even if it's bad circumstances, once it sets in and you have your place..it's yours. (1)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had to move out due to problems at home and get my own place. once i lost my job, job hopped for 5 months, i landed a decent job and (2)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never looked back. I do things my way on my time. It's my space, no sharing. I just love it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm 26 and moving out soon too. This phase of my life being over has put me in kind of a depressive state, wasn't expecting that.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just got out of high school and it feels like life happened way too fast so I can sort of relate. Just keep an open mind and a happy heart

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take care of yourself. Don't be afraid to be kind and cut yourself a break once in a while. Remember, you are your own number one priority.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Schedule a weekly dinner/date/etc. with the people that make you happy; it's something to look forward to during times of anxiety/stress.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did that back in 2013! Two weeks later I tore the tendons in my knee in half (screamed bloody murder, scared the neighbors), and 4 months

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

later my water heater exploded and I dropped 10 cubes of water in 24 hours and flooded my entire yard, among other things. Point is,

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you're going to have issues, but stay calm, breathe, and work through it. You can panic AFTER it stops raining in the house.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A piece of advice I have is to make a monthly budget. Calculate your income and divide it to categories; rent, electric, entertainment, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

mint.com is a free tool that works pretty well. For those who use it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
