'Flowers' performed by Imani Cezanne on Button Poetry.
Imani speaks of an addiction that is quite often not spoken of as one. She describes how addiction affects her family and I find it interesting how she talks about codependency. Previously I worked with youths with drug addiction and she has some solid points on how the family dynamic forms around addictive behavior.

I went to high school with her. Had no idea about her personal life while there with her. Glad to see she's doing well.

Its a fine line, but excessive diet, work out n losing weight is an addiction. It feels good when you hit it, then it consumes you

If your name is "Gardenia", why are you asking your mom what her favorite flower is???

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Her name is Imani. There's punctuation missing in that line: "Gardenia," she said, "White ones."

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

ahhh, punctuation is key.

I hide food in my stomach. I don't think it's working

Poor diet and exercise usually starts with Parents. It takes criminal neglect to allow a child to become obese.

I've always thought food addiction would be the worst. No cold turkey, you still need food for nourishment. It will always be there

I'm not sure if your being a smartass saying we don't exercise. If so, you're missing the point. I'm not heavy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It really is. I had weightloss surgery and I phyically cant fit the food in. But there is still an almost overwhelming desire for it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sugar free has sugar alcohol not "sugar" gives people gas

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

since I quit smoking I could literally eat non-stop, all day, no matter how full I am. I chew gum and fart a lot from the sugarfree hehe

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, sugar alcohols don't play.

If you are chubby it's genetics or no desire to work on your body...if you are fat it is 100% your fault. No genetic fault makes you obese.

There are so many people defending obesity here.... there is no excuse for it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure. Just like when you're addicted to drugs all you have to do is stop taking drugs. Congratulations you're no longer addicted.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

just don't eat single meals that have a days worth of calories. you need to eat 4-6 nutritionally packed, low cal meals. they exist.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Addiction is seeking comfort in that which is destroying you." Wow, I think that's the most succinct and accurate definition I've heard.

9 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 1

Agreed. Powerful.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That was my favorite of all of this as well

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It is so important to treat obesity less like something someone can change overnight and more like an addiction.

9 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 1

At least it sets realistic expectations for weight loss. Shit takes a year minimum to get anywhere and to stay that way.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

*if you do it naturally.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the change was easy to do and maintain, those who suffer from it would already have changed

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

Eating too much isn't a disorder it's you enjoying food too much.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 63

Being addicted to Meth isn't a disorder you just enjoy the high too much.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Which is a chemical imbalance in the head, hence disorder. It's okay that you're uneducated brah, we got you.

hahaha like i care. let me see. 3332 upvotes. I can still have fun putting sense in people's minds. Those who blame others for being fat!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Who's using it as an excuse?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a lot of ppl

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The way you said it was very accusatory, as if people in or around this post were using it that way.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Food addiction is the only one you can't stop cold turkey.

I have swung between binge eating disorder, bulimia and anorexia literally my whole life (I'm talking 5 or 6 yo), institutionalized twice >

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

before I was 23, and I've always said I wished I was an alcoholic instead for that very reason. I can quit food cold turkey with ease and >

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

have done so too many times to count, mostly because every time I've ever tried to taper and eat moderately and "right" it turns into full>

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

anorexia. Since I was old enough to be able to I've used food for comfort or for control, and I'm genuinely afraid I'll never grow strong >

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wrong. Alcohol and Benzodiazepines can also kill you if you stop taking them.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But you eventually just remove the temptation from your immediate vicinity. You can't do that with food.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Once an addict, always an addict

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But you will always need to eat food to survive. It's like forcing an alcoholic to take a shot once a day and then leaving the bottle there.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All right, i get your point

Um I'm right at the healthy/underweight line. I meant that the chemical imbalances in ppls brain require intervention to change habits

Same for people who injected heroin once to try it and became addicted. It IS their fault, but once you become dependent it's hard to stop.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"We know you need to inject heroin a few times a day to live, but don't do any more than that or you are a fucking morally weak person." 2/

Have you ever heard of eating disorders, genetics and etc there are factors that can not be controlled concerning your weight

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Genetics is bullshit! Just because it is more difficult doesnt mean its unobtainable. Less calories in, more out for 99,99% thats it

And I think you're still not understanding how mental disorders work. It's not a matter of just pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

it's exactly that. some people find help, some people help themselves. Regardless is something u got into and only u can get yourself out
