I Blue Apron. I made these foods. What is this thing? Obligatory floof.

Isn't it expensive? I can't believe you pay that!?

The plan I am on is $60 for 3 full meals fit to feed 2 people. If you math it out it comes out to $10 a meal.

$10 a meal, isn't bad at all, especially when you consider: its $60 flat (includes shipping - it's actually only been pulling $59.94), it comes straight to my door (save time and gas not going to grocery store-not walking out with $$$ of crapola that I impulse buy - I'm talking about you ninja turtle Tupperware.), and you get quality ingredients (Salmon is actually fairly regularly sent!)

In the long run, I save more than I spend.

Why do I Blue Apron?

Well, to be honest, it was an impulse purchase that I signed up for a promo deal on a whim and just haven't told it to stop sending me food yet.

Why haven't I shut it off? I'm a 26 year old single (as in referring to tax terms) female who works odd ass hours (was on 2nds now on 3rds), lazy as hell, and hates making decisions.

I get 6 count it S-I-X (you get the point) meals sent to my house - that come with the correct amount of fresh ingredients, sometimes a smidge extra but never less than what you need. The instructions are easy-peezy to follow (like putting together a Lego model set). AND guess what, I get to make one meal to eat now, and when there's nobody around to share it with, it goes with me to work.

Though I've gotten carried away and eaten both servings before... ... Yea. I've regretted it. Sometimes there are a few meals that seem like they could use an extra little something to help fill you up, but hey, that's when it's time for desert right!?

I'm also eating a lot of things I would never go out on a limb and try myself. Maybe some things I'd be ok with to try as a side at a restaurant, but I'd never buy it and try to cook it. Cooked spinach for one - had a bad experience with in in Elem. school, but that was canned stuff. Am Ok with fresh, but fresh cooked fresh spinach in meet drippings with some lemon zest. Wow. Also things like Collared greens, cooking with ginger, (that tree root looking shit, not the pink stuff you get on the side of your sushi), rice that isn't 5 minute quick rice. It's opened my eyes to new things, but seriously, if it wasn't sent to me, I'd be too lazy to have to think far enough ahead to get to the grocery store and gather everything I need. If I was entertaining others I could see myself doing it, but not for myself.

Should you get Blue Apron?

How the hell should I know?

But to tell you the truth, I have learned somewhat more about cooking. But the biggest thing I have learned so far is how to cook for one/two. I came from a family of 5 so I learned to cook a lot and have leftovers. I always find myself over buying and throwing stuff out. And I'm not much of a left over person so if I don't take it to work with me, it'll usually sit in the fridge until it becomes one of those *caution* unknown contents - open at own risk.

1 good sized potato makes a shit ton of mashed potatoes. Like who knew? Also learned to buy some pretty nifty kitchen utensils. Like a potato masher, my newest. Because mashin that tater with a fork - Ain't nobody got time for that.

For that $60 I'm spending I'm also filling up on some pretty healthy meals at least for half of the week. The drive through at McDonnalds doesn't recognize my order much any more, which is a shame because I'm pretty sure my kindness always got me fresh fries.

Cat Tax

Don't let her fool you. She's a stinker.

TL;DR - I get Blue Apron. I think it's worth it. Its delish. I'm too lazy to go grocery shopping.

If enough people are interested I can follow up post about how it all shows up at my door and is packed and stuff. That's usually the next question I get after the cost and basic explains of what it actually is.

Oh, and if you're interested in what they have but don't want to commit, their free phone app actually has all their recipes on it. So if you are more adventurous and productive than I am, you can go out and buy the ingredients and try it at home without actually subscribing.

I've done Plated. Really good and easy to make.
