I think some people out there still need to hear this: Carrying a weapon doesn't protect you. It's not a magic talisman against being shot. Even if charities handed out Glocks like they hand out condoms, people would still be just as vulnerable to bullets.

From a "safety to the individual" perspective you have a point, sort of a, "pick how you want to die, not how you want to live" scenario, but in other ways it's not a 1:1 comparison as most low-rank military members are going to be open-carry, if they have firearms at all. Likewise despite firearm training in basic being minimal, at least in the USAF, they're going to go through more rigorous training in the event that they have to carry firearms as part of their job.

One thing to keep in mind is there is a difference between what the law says/allows and how it's enforced. In particular, this law is expanding the powers of cops to "automatically assume" that people are armed and thus allow cops to pay down suspects without probable cause. This will 100% be used against blacks and minorities to harass them and possibly get them on drug charges. Hell, I'm sure they allow "civil forfeiture" so I could also see them stealing money under "suspicion of a crime"

From a quick google they have a bunch of specific issues that you wouldn't necessarily expect in the nation's capital. Racial segregation, income inequality, etc. It also has some of the highest population density in the US based solely on residents, but during the workweek with commuters it makes the place even more densely packed.

Because DC is a city, note a state. A singular city will pretty much always have a higher homicide rate than a state because the state includes a shitload of area where nobody lives. DC ranks 19th in US cities for homicide rate

The concern here is that states have legalized weed and the Feds have not sued to stop it. The argument could potentially be made for selective enforcement. I think this whole thing is insane personally, but that’s why I don’t live in any of the red states.
