Who are you, the guy I used to work with in the restaurant who constantly dropped hardware from the fry punch into the french fries? At least 3 times while I was working a customer found a wing-nut in their fries.
Back in my youth, I remember a Warner Brothers cartoon where giant timbers are picked up by crane, have the branches cut off, put on a lathe and by the time they're done? They've got a toothpick that a mechanical arm reaches off and puts in a box with other toothpicks.
Without the threading attachment, yeah basically... well... technically it's not lathing, it's a an abrasive drum that they roll around in after being cut, sized and cleaned...
It's really weird because in Australia our baby carrots still have white stuff that is on the carrots and sometimes the roots. I mean small carrots do exist.

Good thing you had carbide tooling. HSS wears out too fast cutting root vegetables.
Cronos51101
HSS might do a better job, you can fine tune the cutting geometry to break the chips properly.
bottledham
Breaking chips would be handy when turning potatoes. Unless you want curly fries ;)
SordFish909
Now thread a nut in a potato. And then fry it in hydraulic oil.
