Yes it is worth it! I have 562 hours clocked in haha it is a great game. have not experienced a lot of problems. It is truly a work of art.

I never played a witcher game until 3 and even though I didn't understand everything at first they do a great job of making that not matter.

At least not too much. You still need to pay pretty close attention to plot, and fyi just do every quest. You'll regret not doing them all.

In my opinion the Witcher 3's story is pretty well self contained. You will be a little confused but it won't take away from the experience.

Personal recommendation would be to read a synopsis of W1, then play 2 and 3. 1 Has not aged very gracefully imo.
