Mosin was a simple design bc of the lack of intelligence of the Soviet’s.

Actually it’s a pretty complicated design, it’s not cheap everything is milled on it. It was just not made for mass production.

They were cheap, and so made cheap and simple guns. The Mosin uses 7.62x54r, rimmed for cheapness of rifle production. (Easier headspacing)

Get a recoil pad like I did. Mine felt a litter short and the recoil pad improved that, too

The full sized ones aren't bad, its the carbine version that *sucks*. And if you got surplus machine gun ammo, hotter than normal.

Had an M44. Same cartridge, but lighter rifle. A box of 20 rounds leaves your shoulder black and blue.

It's an amazingly accurate rifle. Bought mine when I turned 18 for $100. I'm 25 and still have it. It'll rip up whatever your shooting.

I inherited a post-war made Mosin. Action/barrel are shitty, not to mention the sights were made for bayonet attached and heavier bullets.

But if you can get an original in good working order it's got a great action due to all the parts fitting right, unlike the refurbs 2/2

I got a 1939 Russian made for $180 with an aftermarket 2x scope, that was about 4 months ago, you can still find em for <$200 easily.

That said they're the only cheap WW2 riffle, a Kar, Garand or Arisaka are going to cost you, especially if you care about matching numbers.

Those look to be ~$500 which are reasonable but the ammo is like $30/20rnd. Maybe better off getting a 22 to mess with first.
