My team once got a sword with a similar idea to that. Eventually we made another, custom made one which had an atom thick edge.

In the late books there's detailed explanation of what happens when a sword cauterizes stomach wounds. It's not pretty.

It would cauterize the wound, but would create a tunnel from inside to out, allowing blood to exit freely. Fmj's do something similar
