What trains have you been riding? I used to have a 90-minute commute. Just about everyone (on an ~800-person train) had a book or Kindle.

It depends where you live. I found Texas reading for pleasure wasn't common and some people even bragged about not reading. Culture shock.

I took the bus from Northern Canada to the Southern US and I remember how the further I went the less people were reading. Made me sad. :(
