I would argue that if you learn your child isn't yours later in life, when the kid has had a chance to actually see you as their father, you do still owe it to the child to stay in their life. Don't punish the kid for their mother's infidelity, is my stance. Divorce her if you want to but don't just suddenly stop loving the kid because they don't have half your DNA.

NY state law. If a man raises a baby as his own, introduces baby to his family (grandparents aunts etc) as his child then later discovers he's not the biological father, he's still responsible for child support.

That's most states. If you catch the paternity issue quickly enough, then you can usually get off the hook. But if you raise the kid as your own, the state essentially assumes that you've adopted them regardless of paternity and hold all of the same responsibilities/obligations.

No my father was not the biological father of my little sister nor was he on the birth cert. My parents got married after she was born as well. She was raised as his child alongside the rest of us we didn't even know until my paternal aunt got all uppity and spilled the beans like... 5 years after the divorce. Idk I think she was mad at my dad for something. It didn't change anything because she's still my sister and dad obviously didn't care.

Typically a Acknowledgment of Paternity Affidavit (AOP) is filled out at the same time as the birth certificate and in Ohio if a woman is married before giving birth the husband is actually ASSUMED to be the 'legal father' unless contested within 60 days. Even in a long-term relationship. You might find it insulting but for many men, it is one of their only chances to avoid further damage later in life. Unfortunately, men typically don't have many options for recourse. It is better to find out now and not 10 years later and be locked into child support payments for another man's child.

Not always. There have been multiple cases of women just straight-up lying on birth certificates and then when the man sues the judge will decide that it is against the child's interest to correct the birth certificate because the court agrees with the mother that the actual father would be unable to pay (due to jail or some such), so the court will decide that it is wrong to make a judgment against the child's best interest and dismiss the case.

If you look for articles on this, you find many examples of men being forced to pay for children they aren't related too. Many states have a short statute of limitations to contest paternity linked to the birthdate of the child.

Given how often even women that are complete messes get awarded sole custody, it's less likely than you think. The amount of child support is directly related to the % of custody, so with 50/50 custody nobody pays and with 0/100 custody one person pays that maximum amount. The state gets a cut of child support, so it's incentivised to get the maximum amount. (And add to that that often the amount of child support is based on what the State thinks you *could* earn rather than what you do earn...)
