Back in June I hurt my neck and consequently found out I have a small mass in my brain. ER doc said it was most likely calcified, nothing to worry about. Still a little worried. Fast forward to last Friday. I get a MRI "just to be safe", find out that, no it isn't calcified and, oh look, it might be a WHO class II tumor.
There are a few differential diagnoses, been obsessively and unwisely googling for a few days now.
Reading about the different surgeries that might be required. Not taking it well.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT ever YouTube a surgery you might have to get.
Anyway, I've got an appointment with a neurologist and a neurosurgeon coming up. Still unclear whether they'll go ahead and try to take it out now or wait six months for an additional MRI to measure the growth rate. I guess I don't really know what I'm feeling right now. I never expected anything like this. At this point I just shut down my computer and am about to binge on some Doctor Who with my dog. I don't know if I'm ready to tell my friends and family yet cause I don't want to scare them, so I decided to vent to the internet instead. Thanks for reading. Dog tax included. Inb4 "what's her name?" That's Lily Luna and she's the cutest dog in the entire world. Edit: Thanks for all the support you guys! Everyone who says it's not bad luck that it got caught is completely right. I actually know that I'm extremely lucky, it just doesn't totally feel like it yet. I did the same for my retinal detachment, they were so violent with the eye. I freaked out during surgery, and I had a panic attack. Blah!

Though it is a tumor, it doesn't mean it is cancer. Cancer is a type of tumor, which invades and spreads. The "-oma" usually means benign.

Not quite true. Carcinoma, sarcoma, all bad cancers end in -oma. Just means "mass". Benign ones too, adenomas or in this case incidentaloma.

Let me rephrase most benign only end in -oma, such as lipoma but if it has the tissue specifier such as carcinoma or sarcoma it means cancer

Carincoma and sarcoma don't specify which tissue it's coming from (lung, kidneys, heart, skin). Lipoma does though (fat cells).

Another common brain malformation is a cavernous angioma, or cavernoma. Almost always harmless. There's a lot of things that aren't cancer
