It’s a start I guess. I’ve had a problem for some time with drinking, particularly the stopping part, and because of a medical condition my doctor says I should stop drinking to correct it. Maybe next time I’ll be able to make it longer.
Here’s to next time! ( I’ll only drink a Diet Coke, I promise.)

Apparently this went into the positive despite expectations... I guess send boobs of motivation? Is that pandering? Should I really give a damn if I see a pair?

I've struggled with drinking for years and now am able to only have a few drinks and be done. It's takes strength to only have one be proud!

Learn and move on! Don't think to much about the lapse, you can do it!

I gave up the booze in October 2016. The first 2 weeks were the hardest. It gets easier after that. Best decision ever. Good luck. ^^

Addiction is a bitch. Relapses are usually a part of getting better, but don't fool yourelf. Let it go and don't play with fire.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As always, look into Selincro (or Nalmefene) that shit saved my life from alcohol.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can always just have one beer because then I switch to whiskey.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

Man. Bourbon is my shit. On a normal nght I had a 750 of bourbon and a 12 pack. On a good night it was a 750 and two 30 packs of beer.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Somehow I figured out how to consume that much beer, no matter how rare it was.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there motherfucking fore, 1 beer isnt that bad.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

man theres hundreds of non-alchoholic drinks out there. make it your mission to try them! i did that as a -17 y/o. Kroger prime selection

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sodas are amazing! hopped grapefruit and huckleberry hibiscus are my favorites.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is my first sober NYE. Changing my meds and also realizing that I’m older and don’t care anymore ????

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out this subreddit. R/stopdrinking

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I quit as well after a very long time. It's absolutely doable but don't beat yourself up over slips. Take it day by day. It's worth it!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is a bare breasted chicken pic good enough?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My bf and I are at that same point, 1 beer is too much and a million isn't enough. So we're already on the road to recovery. Stay strong!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to drink almost everyday until I realized how much money I was spending... remember be cheap and spend it on games instead

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out Alcoholics Anonymous, it has plenty of good people that will help you out.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good start, buddy! Now see if you can keep it at one beer twice a week.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The trick to quitting is to quit so slowly you don't think you're quitting at all. It works with sugar at least, I don't know about alcohol.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Feels good when you can stop at 1, but next weekend you drink 10 and have a horrible night. No fake bargains...solve the problem.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

It’s been about 2ish months now, still able to exercise restraint. No drinking at home either.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 is child's play. Give me a bottle of bourbon and a 30 pack and lets talk.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Good you stopped. This time. Next time focus on not starting. You will live a better life I promise. Happy New Year.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in the same boat. Stay strong for me at least..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice job but careful about rewarding yourself like that. Everybody's different, some can moderate others need to go cold turkey.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Many years sober here. Extremely thankful that I stayed with it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you absolutely have to, maybe go for a non alcoholic beer.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can do it.

Go to meetings. Do it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 months sober after drinking everyday for about 10 years. That first month sucks. Then it gets worse. Then it gets better.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you think you have a problem with alcohol, check out AA. I have stayed sober for 10 months with their help. You Are Not Alone.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Wouldn't work for atheists that disbelieve in higher powers. And don't try to redefine what higher power means to fit because it's just sad.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can be your own higher power AND get chips whenever you want them. Ask me about my 30 year chip and the screwdrivers I have occasionally

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're right. It probably is preferable to die horribly from a fatal preventable disease than it is to try to live on spiritual principles.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good that it works for you but it fails way more often, anyone in need should seek real medical help rather than 100 year old Church science

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Werneke Korsakoff?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that a side effect or something?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's an extension of liver cirrhosis, most often caused by binge drinking. The buildup of toxins due to the failure of the liver causes 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Permanent brain damage, along with damage pretty much everywhere else in the body. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stopping at early signs can allow recovery regarding motor loss.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're right, my mistake. I was thinking of the advanced cases

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The drinking causes a drop in B12 which causes neural damage and corea. It's usually long term and heavy drinking.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not necessarily a good thing. You might think that you will always be able to stop at 1, my tip: Take it as a failure, don't do it again.

8 years ago | Likes 179 Dislikes 36

Just don't beat yourself up over it or think it's hopeless, just get back up, dust yourself off, and push forward.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I don’t disagree. I don’t know why I had it, but after I did I knew I shouldn’t have.

8 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 3

Could it have been an overwhelming urge to return to a familiar habit?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe toss your beer into my fridge?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah man, its a small win. You stopped yourself, where as in the past, you'd be written off it sounds like. Now just start again. Good job.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've read through the comments and people get stuck on the word "failure". Failing isn't an end, your week isn't "blown", and you still..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

..succeeded in not drinking for a week. But take it as a misstep, and dont go thinking you "can handle just one beer". That is where you..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

..fall off the wagon. Still, going absolutist would suck.. But if you really DO have a serious problem, it might be the only option.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not necessarily a failure. Self control doesn't have to mean abstinence. It can mean moderation.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Not to an alcoholic

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Even to an alcoholic. If someone can't learn impulse control then they don't want to and no therapy, even abstinence, will work.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I can agree with this. When I quit smoking I got serious about drinking. I replaced one with another but I didn’t care

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Total abstinence per AA has terrible success rates, moderation is key for most people. Learn to control rather than totally avoid.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

You’re getting downvotes for saying the trust, lol. AA has shit success rates, deal with it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Actually, we should all deal with it. That way we can actually work on a better way to help people that’s not based on medieval Christian

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Stupid as fuck masochistic practices.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Some people don't moderate. It's either full on or full off. I know because I'm that dude.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right, but most people actually do. The abstinence only approach creates cycles of relapse and guilt rather than teaching moderation.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AA says you have a disease you can't control so people relapse and spiral. AA fails because it dismisses WHY the drinking takes place.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Total avoidance still leaves the addictive behavior intact, real treatment addresses the WHY of addiction rather than the substance.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You probably know yourself better than internet strangers. They may be right but aren't that reliable in general.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is terrible advice. Look at it as you went a whole week without drinking and then controlled yourself when you gave in. Great job!

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 20

Except that once you start thinking you can control it, you get sloppy and can relapse. Don't underestimate addiction.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Except 1 becomes oh I can just stop at 1, then it's 2, etc. Maybe not put yourself to "failure" but must definitely try harder.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I think stopping at 1 is definitely harder than having none, so I’m pretty sure he did try hard.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Camel's nose fallacy is still a fallacy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I've been drinking almost every night for the past two years. After tonight, NO MORE. Same with cigs and pot. I need a new job...

8 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 1

I believe in you! Mr. Rogers would be proud that you are willing to make a change

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't quit 3 vices simultaneously... You're setting yourself up for failure

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Be careful about hopping off all 3 of those at the same time; if it gets too hard, maybe just try to pick them off 1 by 1. Best of luck!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Every night? Your poor stomach

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Send me half of what you get please!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey. shiftTieTraveler. Let's go beat up the others for that pot and we can split it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Making the decision is the first step! You can do it!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Stick with it! It will be hard though

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Coming from someone who has had to stop obsessive behavior, I like your gumption, but stopping cold turkey can work, but only for a very /1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

disciplined person. Who are you? If you're one with regressive behavior...it's OK. Take it slow and start limiting yourself with the /2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

intent to either go down to 1-2 drinks/whatever else a week to nothing. It's a good idea to get rid of them (beer, etc.) as well. /3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am NOT a behavioral psychologist, but as a patient of one it's only fair to spread my understanding to others who want (it). Be strong /4

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and understand that only YOU can get yourself out of these damaging behaviors. If someone who knows more than me wants to pitch in- do. ×5

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve been a bottle a day+ drinker for about 15 years for no real reason. Good life, good job, good money.. just like to drink.

Lots of people are willing to overlook the smell, etc so long as the person is not clearly under the influence and gives them no problems.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice, I still got a few more years lol

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bottle of? There's arguments for 1 beer a day being healthy. A bottle of liquor on the other hand... Not so much..

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Asking the right qurstions.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bourbon is my vice, but anything 90 proof will do.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I've been drinking beer for the same amount of time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aren’t you hungover every morning lol

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly, no.... There are some bourbons that are bad, and some that are good. If you want a list I will let you know.
