He is an older gentleman that is a semi regular who came in with a co worker to have lunch and a beer. Drank his beer, ate his lunch and suddenly collapsed at the bar. One of my coworkers called 911 while one of my regulars jumped right in to help. (Marines are always ready) The EMTs showed up and he refused to go to the hospital. His co worker ended up taking him home and I don't know if he's okay or not. Hopefully he's okay.

I bought smokes and almost smoked the entire pack. I couldn't help myself. I'll go back on the wagon tomorrow but for tonight it's beer and cigarettes.

2020 can go f**k itself.

Fell off the smoking wagon this week. Just gotta keep quitting. I'm trying again tomorrow. Good luck!

Have you ever had a nicotine hangover,? If you wake up with a splitting headache, that night be the reason.

You gotta pick your battles. Sounds like you picked the right one today.

Guessing this is in the US since he did not want to to the hospital.

Honestly...smoke the rest of the pack and start the count again tomorrow. It's ok to stumble. We're all just doing what gets us through.

I feel you ?

Hang in there. Do something or buy something to spoil yourself. You’ll feel better. Try to leave the cigarettes.

I buy fast food everytime I get the urge to buy alcohol. It works. Reward yourself for overcoming the urges

Climb back on the wagon tomorrow. Don beat yourself up about it, relapse can/is part of beating addiction

I just listened to the international death count. Why on EARTH are there still restaurants/bars open? God damn it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

300k (US) died, sure. But ~3 million (US) died in 2018 in total. When you have billions of people, you'll have lots of death regardless.

Shit happens, whether it's the guy collapsing or you relapsing. He got up, brushed himself off, & went home; now you get back on the wagon.

change your perspective & think he did what he loved until the end & is released from this reality us you have a job, bats by me are closed.

Wallowing in self pity seems to be the scourge of our age. IMHO.

Excuses excuses....nothing happened to you. You’re not his family, you were looking for a reason and you made this moment it.

When a drink with a friend ends up costing you tens of thousands of dollars

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Careful.I would do this too when shit got heavy, but for me personally it would 100% lead to me smoking full time again. Back on that wagon!

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's the plan and one I will stick with. I don't want to die because of cigarettes. Besides, I plan on living forever!

amazon has some really effective nicotine gum for like 28 bucks and the cinnamon tastes great. made the switch and never looked back

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yup, had a similar thing happen when a guy tried to commit suicide at my workplace

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't blame yourself. When shit like this happens you easily fall back into those habits. Tomorrow is a new day, you're going to make it

I was serving and as I brought out drink refills, a grandpa with his family choked. I had to do the Heimlich on him, he lived.

Scared the shit out of me. Defaulted to my first aid and CPR training, I was never more grateful for mandatory training ever.

I think you get a bye on this one

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometimes you need to vent from the stress. As long as it is temporary the damage will be minor.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Dude that’s a shit excuse to start again and you know it. Get back on that fucking wagon immediately.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

The wagon will be there waiting for you tomorrow. Be safe.

Get liver cirrhosis. I did in 2017. Went a-rehabbin' in 2023. 1 year and 3 months off the sauce and still smoke whenever the fuck I can (maybe a pack every 2 weeks). Quittin's a bitch. It's 2024, and I'm 40. Keep on trying. It's way better than giving in. Sucks, but makes you appreciate a lot of things a LOT more.

I hope tomorrow you don’t regret it.

Life in a red state in a county that is deep red. I work because I can. The bills aren't paying themselves

Same here man. Opening a movie theatre isn't the best idea. But my landlord is a bitch and wouldn't defer rent. $10/sq. Ft on 20k Sq. Ft.

In the future I hope we have that technology.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it is infuriating that you have to. and I don't understand how people willingly will still eat out (over here, when restaurants were still

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

open, many owners decided to shorten opening times bc fewer people were coming in and it wasn't worth staying open for 3 customers a night)

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I get it. But can I tell you how angry I am that the government didn't just pay us all to stay home for a month at the beginning of this?

5 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

The federal government, I mean.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Brazilian government "paid" 9 months for the needed. Problem is egomaniac people can't comply and cooperate in any way.

When the madness is over go take a first aid course. As a bartender you're going to see more than one person pass out:)

5 years ago | Likes 379 Dislikes 1

How often are you seeing people hit the floor and which country? I feel like I'm missing out

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What he said! Being trained at the Emergency Medical Responder level (one below EMT) takes little time, and can help you save a life!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This hammered that point home to me. I am grateful that everyone stayed calm and did what they did. I personally need to be more prepared.

I also *highly* recommend taking a quick narcan/naloxone training course and getting a kit. It takes maybe an hour.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get as much hands on in the classes as you are able to. Build that muscle memory. You’ll do great

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I will do my best. I have a healthy respect for muscle memory

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

It's not as tough as it seems. Just remember if you ever have to use CPR. Expect to break ribs.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Instructors have told me. If you break ribs and they survive they'll have pain but are alive. If they don't, then they won't care.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

While it always helps to be prepared, know that there will be circumstances you can't prepare for. 911 isn't just to call an ambulance, they

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Also give first aid instruction.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Ultimately speaking, your job is to give people a good experience without overdoing it. Basic first aid knowledg is good (and required) but

Don't feel like every event that happens is your responsibility.
