I would like a self-driving car. (I'm old and don't see well at night)
NewtypeTim
I want all those things, but I also wouldn’t mind a 8k TV and a self driving car.
CraftyGiant
Based on productivity increases we should only need about a 1 day per adult worker workweek, but greed ruins everything.
MichaelMars
I want to live, not just survive
tsooji
I dunno... self driving cars would get me some extra reading time... Maybe some extra drinking time...

When you don’t spend 80% of your check on rent, you can suddenly afford to buy a tv now and again.
Becker37
I want to be able to pay my bills, take care of my child, and own a home. I want to be able to go to the doctor/dentist when I need to. If
An emergency happens I want to be able to deal with it and move on without wondering if me killing myself would be the better option.

Okay, but I do actually want self-driving cars. My husband is blind, and this tech will mean freedom advancement for his community 1/2

The audacity. What will you want next, a liveable wage and universal access to healthcare? But for real... 4 day workweek, please!
RiotousSinner
I want to nap in my self driving car in my way to my will paying job.
teru3
I want 4 speed manual transmission and V8 engine.
graehall
Self driving cars? Oh you mean effective accessible and fast public transport?
YangKoete
And bike paths, too!
TheS4ndm4n
We already have abundant public transport and bike paths everywhere. Don't you?
Nope. It's either in the street or nothing.
DickeyBirdie
Yes, like trams, street-cars, & trains. Stuff that existed in 1910.
Grenateh
Both actually
aThingWithTheStufAndTheJunk
Literally no reason we can't have both. The fact we don't is down to greed and assholery.
BearMcBeary
14 years of working and still can't have my own home.
Flinn79
I very much agree with this. Give us our lives back and a mean to live them in a fair way, we need nothing else.
forsale90
The post implies that you can only have one side, but in reality we could easily have both, if not for corporate and billionaire greed.
We could have a whole lot of shit if not for those bastards but we're asking for basic human rights because a good life is unimaginable

But if you have a 4 day workweek & rent control, then your boss’ boss’ boss wont be able to afford 10 8k TVs & 15 self driving cars
rodrigezhu
I have a 4 day work week. Monday through Thursday. 10 hour days. Been having this schedule for 14 years. past 5 or so years, I have been
contemplating if Im just being lazy from not finding another job on the rest of my days off. I tell myself should I just keep budgeting and
enjoy life, even if there is not a whole lot of money to travel. Or should I work my body to death and have extra money. I have kids, wife
and a home. Everything I need. Just not sure if I should be doing more.
paulwall117350
One can be sold to you at a profit, the other reduces the profit margins of those in charge. That's the difference.
demosteness
One can control your thoughts and movements.
rbudrick
False. Companies know 4 day weeks are more productive with higher profits. They just don't want 3, then 2, etc to happen.
DocBenny
It is funny because 4-day weeks have been proven to increase productivity and reduce company expenses. Opposition is not even about money 1/
It's blatantly about keeping the working class broken and desperate.
mirhagk
Nah it's about stupidity. They simply can't wrap their head around the idea.
Thatradarguy
Nah nah it’s about control. The rich is literally saying fuck the working class
I mean.... Have you talked to them? Many are as dumb as bricks. They ain't smart enough to pull off conspiracies
mugaaz
People build shelter for profit too. Rent control is a great way to incentivize people to stop building residences.
Shelter for profit is the problem. There's no reason why anyone should be robbed of 1/3 of their income just to enrich a landlord.
Then build your own house?
I'd love to if I weren't priced out by investors who base the price on the potential rental income, not what the house is actually worth.
The investors arent pricing you out of building a house though, just from buying an existing one.
Yourpoliticalpartyisaterroristorganization
Even 4k TV's are mostly useless. No one broadcasts in 4k. If you buy an 8k it's a gimic and won't be useful for 5 years
techley
Not true on 4k. Lots of media is available in 4k regularly. Agreed on 8k though
How many channels on your service provider are not upscaled content and true 4k broadcast?
DarkZalgo
Just about every streaming service I use supports 4K dude. And 8K is no more of a gimmick than 1080p was a decade ago dude.
On top of that, it's not that expensive to get a device to upscale content to play anything at 4K on your TV, regardless of input rez.
You likely aren't getting true 4k service while streaming but at the beginning of your billing cycle and during non peak hours.
Internet providers start throttling data at 100gb. Which doesn't take but 10 days for a person streaming at 4k just three hours a day.
Dunno what ISP you have but mine doesn't throttle until at least 1TB. I'm at 860 GB for the month right now and still have normal speed.
Rahava
A 4 day work week without 10hr+ days I think you mean. Trust me from someone who spent my 4 day work week with 10hour + 4hrs of commute.
I often like 10-hour days. I hit a state of flow about 6-7 hours into the day, production soars for a few hours then.
NaughtButOne
10 hour days aren't awful if you don't have that commute, at least personally. I used to do 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off and it was magical.
4 * 10hrs is way better than 5 * 8 in may experience. I love when I am "allowed" to flex my hours that way.

I've found 12 hour days to be kinda nice if they're not stacked in a row and there isn't anyone there micromanaging those 12 hours.
That said, I don't plan on ever doing another one for any asshole but myself and my own bullshit if I have ANY say in the matter.
roofield
Still, a 4 day work week gives you 3 days to hang drywall and replace windows.
Snotty128
4 hours commute a day? Damn
Sounds about right for the Seattle area if your commute involves a ferry...
When I worked in London, an hour commute door to door was fine.
kittybuttwiggle

clarkWhogotsanity
Some people have to commute to find high enough wages. I'm at about 2.5 hours commute but that gets me about $15/hr more
What you've done there is described the problem. I know people don't do it for fun but it's a horrendous waste all the same.
It's a choice for me. I've had multiple offers to be back at my old dealership but it's busier where I am and how I get paid I need busy
There's no reason you couldn't be paid well closer to home. Some also have to commute despite their jobs being technically doable from home
