So for those who have seen my previous posts, Jon snow crossed the rainbow Bridge yesterday. It was unexpected and there is a huge crater through me and my wife’s chest. We also have another cat who was very close with Jon, her name is Dany. She’s rather confused and anxious. The house is too quiet. So today I got cat food for Dany, and there was this 3 year old short hair, very friendly. Am I terrible for already considering adopting a new cat? Am I being selfish? If I did, I know it wouldn’t ever replace Jon, but also wondering if it would get along with Dany. Also happens to be this cats birthday today. Maybe im way too emotional to even think straight which is why I am turning to you wonderful imgurians.

Do it Jon Snow will approve

My rebound kittens are 5 now and still my best buds. I got two to replace one to avoid comparing them. Totally different dynamic.

You are allowed to love again ❤️ An unused heart can't be preserved while alive. It too, is a muscle that needs excessive use to be strong.

It's not a replacement. It's a new family member.

Sorry for your loss, I just went through this a couple months ago with our cat lil gurl.

Just lost our youngest cat (heart condition) out of 5. I understand, and we haven't even looked at any others.

If you have space give a pet a home. They will never be a replacement but they will always love you and have their own charm.

Thanks! Definitely concerned about how Dany would interact so maybe I should foster

I totally understand how you feel don’t rush it

If you can afford it mentally/emotionally/financially, there's no reason not to.

For some folks, a new friend is how they heal from the loss of an old friend

It's not selfish, just human. I think Jon would be happy you chose to help another in need in his memory. Life never gives good timing.

This also applies to cats

I sorrow for your loss of jon. To be honest it may have been jon who led you to kitty

it’s our job to love them, out-live them, and love as many as possible while we can. Its emotionally tough but it’s all we have to offer

it’s our cross to bare.

Sorry for the loss, friend.. Just sit down and do some self evaluation before you make a decision. Do you want the kitten cause you want to

fill the void? Or do you want the kitten because the merits of its behavior?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Both I guess. There’s a huge void for sure. I know a new cat won’t fill or replace and that I still will need to grieve.

The other cat probably needs another buddy. I had to put two dogs down monday. I really think i need to get another buddy for the one left.

I am so sorry. It’s never easy. I’m just feeling so much guilt and it hasn’t even been 24 hours

I lost my 17 year old bottle baby to heart failure, and thought I would need months to even consider another cat. I was wrong.

I wanted another cat after about two weeks, but didn't say anything because I thought my husband wasn't ready. He thought I wasn't ready.

We decided to just go look, and found a little shy lady who has blossomed so beautiful in her new home.

If your heart says you might be ready, be open to the possibility but don't just jump. You have to make decisions for the other kitty.

My cat had cancer for 3 years. It gave me some processing time, which helped me realize I would never replace her. BUT, I could give 1/

Perfectly normal for some people, everybody grieves normally. When my dog of 16 years died last fall my wife and I started immediately…

…seeking a new small dog because we knew I’d cope better having a small dog in the house rather than just our large dog, after 16 years…

…having a small dog around. And we were right, it was far easier for me, particularly working from home exclusively for the last three…

…years, to have our new dog there. I never felt any guilt about it, my old dog had a great life and I know he’d want me to be happy.

You’re not replacing your pet, you’re just filling their spot in your home so it doesn’t sit empty.
