Depends on the animal. Most exotic pets, yes. But there are plenty of beetles and things that do great in terrariums.
Exotic mammals do not belong in houses. A toad, humanely and sustainably collected, should thrive in a nice toad enclosure.
Key point being *enclosure*, not loose in your house. Non-domesticated animals do not belong loose in a house.
