Maybe we can find it uplifting that a rich guy is doing something good for once?! …No? We’re gonna pick this apart and be more upset than before?!.. Ok, got it, forgot I was on the internet for sec. My bad.
Each time a billionarie does something "good", remember how you would feel if someone robbed the local credit union and then gave 0.1% of what they stole to a school. You'd say "Wait a minute, part of that are my savings, that's not your money, and donating part of it doesn't exonerate you". The only difference is that the billionaire robbed you before your labor turned into money, instead of after your labor turned into money. Which makes no difference. People just need to realize it doesn't.
Meanwhile Trump shut down life saving cancer research that our government was funding to give billionaires tax breaks. Why should an unelected billionaire get to decide where to spend that money instead of our representative government?
He also funds all of his son, Travis Knight's stop motion movies. Box Trolls, Paranorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, all exist because he paid for them. He essentially pays the salaries of everyone at Laika studios because the movies don't actually make much money.
Well, then we can add being a complete fool atop the mound of accusations. There is no cure for cancer because cancer is not a singular disease; it's a collection of wildly different illnesses that have very little in common from a treatment perspective. Even curing one of these in our lifetime is extremely unlikely.
Years ago I lived in Oregon and my boyfriend was a reporter for The Oregonian. He looked into the divorce papers from whatever wife Phil Knight was separated from, and I can't remember the exact amount but I think she said that he gave her an allowance of something like $5 a week. He was quite rich at that point as well.
Shit i remember protesting slavery outside the nike store on george st, then they announced the invasion of afghanistan and suddenly we're all protesting something else.
Bruce is younger than Trump, there was never a before Trump for him, also Bruce was a dick to him way back in the day too, still with cause, just not the mounting supervolcano of cause he's providing nowadays.
What if Nike actually manufactured in the U.S. ? How many living wage jobs for Americans COULD have been part of our economy ? Instead, nearly all Nike footwear and apparel are produced overseas in Vietnam, Indonesia, and China. What if greedy fucks could accept being mere millionaires and make things for us & by us ?
Well used to be that research was government funded but was shifted to Big Pharma funded so they can patent the lifetime treatment (not cure) and make billions.
So that 2 billion donation will help other billionaires ultimately.
It's just a PR move, because they know the Media will ABSOLUTELY sing praises about them no matter what. Shit they'll mention their philanthropy before the crimes.
philantrhopy is a tax write off. So is donating "art" they paid large amounts of money for storing them in special merchant port cities so no taxes. Then they just donate them to a museum when its worth more than they paid and get a tax write off for humanities for the same amount.
And sadly billionaires as philanthropists is better than what we have right now. They've gone mask off with Thiel wooing the ultrarich from rescinding their vow to the Giving Pledge.
Them spending the money on good causes to have less money left to tax is at least something of a good thing. It's how the moguls and tycoons of yore did it in the days of wealth taxes. You spend money on your company, or society, to get below the profit threshold of that tax bracket.
But, these guys are basically doing the bare minimum. Still good to fund those charities, but they are still making billions at the expense of their own workers. (1/2)
What we need is to bring back the heavy wealth taxes, and add a special "Billionaire's bracket" - 100% of everything over the 1B mark. Motivate them to do enough spending to not be a billionaire, or pay enough taxes to not be a billionaire.
With that kind of money, we could fix every shortage, every economic issue, throughout the country... and have enough left over to provide humanitarian aid the world over. THAT's how rich these jerks are right now.

I'm kind of okay with that. Travis makes some good movies, even if they don't make money. I also liked Bumblebee and Masters of the Universe

They always benefit from it. It is never altruism. They only do anything they assured they're owed something for doing and else they just take later.

Its worse than that. Big Pharma is now government funded, so we pay for the R&D then they patent it and get a tax break as well.
