Not necessarily totally incorrect use of meme... but mostly incorrect?

There are differences between major depressive disorder and depression. He problem with society is that we try to force people to be stoic.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What if depression has become part of the average?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I just channel all my depression into memes and hoping I don't wake up in the morning

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The teen angst days, yeah I don't miss those

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Watch the netflix series 13 Reasons Why, and you'll understand that even regular teens can suffer from depression

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

due to hormonal changes their mental state takes a roller coaster ride

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

There's a difference between having clinical depression and having had depressive episodes.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The increasing suicide rate would say otherwise

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TBH @OP you are probably half right. The other half is that there are people like me that find it easier to talk it out on Imgur

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

to avoid bothering people IRL

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Does having diagnosed severe depression by a certified psychologist count?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yes. Psychologists can formally dx someone with a mental health disorder. They can't prescribe meds - that's gotta be a psychiatrist.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I thought that about myself for years.. went to the doctors and now ive got a diagnosis... Welp...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The thing is everyone deals with problems differently at different stages. A little kid drops his ice cream is the end of the world to him.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I drop my icecream and it's the end of the world for me too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know what? Since these two can't handle their ice cream, we need to just ban IC federally and end this national nightmare. - Politician

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's an extremely common mental issue, affects several million people in the US a year, seems stupid to believe most of those posts are BS.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I make $15k a year in a profession I regret and the art I want to make is never to my standards and never satisfying. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

2/2 I want to change career paths but I'm stuck in a loop of self-loathing and pent up desires. Also 26 y/o virgin but this is Imgur amirite

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You know it'll really depression when you still feel it even when you don't have a reason to.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not like I really know what I'm talking about or anything though;

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was meant to be an exclamation mark, not a semicolon.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone's problems matter. Doesn't matter if you're the richest or poorest person in the world, whether they seem trivial to others or not.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, what may seem small to you is big to someone else. Compassion is important here.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Feel you everyone says they are depressed try actually being clinically diagnosed with depression and try and cope with everyday life sucks

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have ptsd from stopping my ex wife from killing herself. Yet I have seen more fucked up shit than that and it doesnt bother me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mental health is like physical health, severity ranges. Depression ranges from flu-like danger level to terminal illness. just because...

9 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

Someone's mental health issues are comparatively mild doesn't mean they should be taken lightly or denied appropriate treatment.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

How would you feel if you had a stomach bug and someone said "you don't have a real illness like cancer" minor depression still really sucks

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Maybe depression is an average regular problem.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

I've had this theory as well. I think the way society functions leaves people emotionally starved and makes them feel isolated.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh definitely

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aye, but assuming things like this is what caused my PTSD and chronic fatigue syndrome to go un diagnosed for 5 years 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And because it took so Long i went downhill a lot before I got propper treatment, so now I'm stuck walking with a cane and disassociateing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most is way too big of assumption. At the most, some of them are. I'm 17 and both me and my girlfriend have been diagnosed with anxiety 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

Leading to unchecked depression that takes over your life and tears away any motivation you had. She and I both went into a mental 2/?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Hospital and struggled to want to live and be happy. Most of the kids there wanted to die and hated everything about themselves. I've 3/?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Personally known teenagers that have killed themselves from their sickness so no, I don't believe most cases are normal problems

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

And even if it is "normal problems", that's just not even how depression works

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Someone once told me all things are relative. If a young person dealing w something but perhaps overreacting a bit so be it. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If it is something more serious and someone uses the site to a bit to vent or reach out so be it. In either case I think it is ok

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

regardless of whether it is "proper depression" or not (whatever that means), isn't it a good thing to have people (especially men) talk /1

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

When things are bothering them? /2

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"high school is such a serious thing...these problems matter" - mock song from Family Guy

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

"There's nuthin goin on in this world that's more important than what's goin on right here right now against these lockers in this hs."

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm glad someone else knew what I was talking about.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That could be true. Or there could be a lot of depressed people who feel the need to express how they feel on Imgur. IRL people don't talk

9 years ago | Likes 387 Dislikes 23

Said the average teenager

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

I can relate to this. I started using imgur because of it. It really helps.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Preach

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes but Imgur is a group of assholes so.......

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's good to be skeptical

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

This is both a solution and a problem. Not dealing with the actual issue IRL and trying to self-medicate online might just make it worse.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I understand your point. It is important to get professional help.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I go on a website where you let strangers vent to you. Mostly teens with relationship issues. Last time it was a girl contemplating (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2/2) getting an abortion from a rape. She decided not to.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do talk, I choose the people who I do talk to, but I say it to them like I am kidding, secretly I am not. #howDeepIsThatBoy :-))

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think that's the 100. Irl depressed people don't go out spouting their problems...but you have the Internet where you can be something els

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

e and you can voice your issues and not worry about real judgement hence the keyboard warrior

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You mean the guy in imgur trying to diagnose a bunch of people all at once might be wrong??*gasp**gasp*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About it as much. It's difficult keeping it to yourself sometimes

9 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 3

And sometimes being depressed isn't about what problems you face. It's something that just comes and gnaws at you.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Yup. Agreed. Of course, if you tell them to suck it up and take a lap, you'll get shit on here.

9 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 33

Kind of hard to take a lap when you cannot sum up the will to eat.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

People with actual depression don't enjoy being told to just walk it off. Doesn't work that way. Though, I agree, most people here aren't

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 7

It's sometimes hard to tell who's really going through depression through a meme so everyone who comments is careful and treats them nicely

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Except the ones that post things like this every now and then. Then again, you never know what a person is going through, so don't be a dick

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Am I a dick?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depression isn't about the situation, it's a run away imbalance of chemicals due to multiple factors. You don't understand depression.

9 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 25

It also refers to the general feeling, though. Not just the medical condition

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

This

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think a lot of people don't have an imbalance but think because they are unhappy they are mentally ill. Not everyone or even most, but some

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is correct.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Whilst that's true, there are still other causes. Otherwise we'd all be cured by taking SSRIs.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I still don't understand this weird idea that if your life is somewhat decent you're just not allowed or capable of being depressed

9 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 1

Like he said, a lot of people just don't understand depression and don't care to

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

I think this post is about the self-diagnosed cases.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

While I agree, im personally too scared to tell any docs cuz of the social stigma that surrounds depression.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are many kinds of depression - situational and biochemical. You don't understand medicine.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

Many = 2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Its crazy how if u have an open compound fracture no one will argue that you dont; say you have depression or anxiety and ppl will doubt you

9 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 9

To be fair, it's a hell of a lot easier to fake the later, which is why people have doubt, but your overall point is right

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

Idk about fake, but it's it's easier to believe someone fractured a bone than to believe a doctor diagnosed them with depression.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

This is coming from someone that has to take meds in the army for anxiety and people still didn't believe me.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I think if someone was lying about having depression or anxiety than they probably still need help. There's something wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good point, until I remember the semi-goth group at my school. They thought depression showed intelligence. Awful humans, ruined Radiohead.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah but sometimes the problem is they have a personality disorder, most of which are not very treatable

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be extra fair, the attention whores of the pre-internet age would fake injuries. Crutches, Tubigrips & limps were suspicious pre 1995.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think those ppl still need mental health services. I've read that a lot of SIDS cases are related to mothers seeking attention from 1/..

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The death of their child. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope that's not SIDS, that's Munchausen syndrome by proxy which is a technical term for cruel attention whore. SIDS is unexplained. :(

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes I know what munchausen syndrome is. It was determined that cases thought to be SIDS we're in fact MS.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah ok, I getcha. Attention whores might need medical attention before they take it too far? Most grow out of it but yeah some would. Urgh.
