How the fuck did you...

Beautiful. Any videos?
Brompton bikes might have some clips out there. Long apprenticeship just to braze painted frames. The raw bikes are done by the best.

Omg so sexy and that's not just the run speaking

I'm more for welding, but fuck me that's a nice brazing job - I think I may have to improve my technique, it's shameful in comparison!
Don't be ashamed. These guys do this all day, and are held to a ridiculously high standard.
well, it was mostly a joke - when I braze things it's either going to be sanded over or it's not a visible part anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ still...
sandinmypocket
Yes that is a weld.
exenos
Not a weld since only the brazing rod was melted.
This is exactly why I come here
jeffeff
I now know the difference between brazing and welding. This may forget your name, exenos, but I will not forget what you taught me.
Spudworth
Actually made this face when I opened this post
I make that face when I pull one of these bikes out of the box for final assembly. They are all so well done.
Tiddlefits
I had to bite my knuckle as not to squeal
TiniesTim
Who makes these frames?
Brompton. Based out of London. They make amazingly functional folding bicycles. This particular bike is going to a new home today.

Seems like TIG welding would hold better. Any reason for brazing instead?
TIG wouldn't be quite as strong for this purpose. Not that it wouldn't work, but these folks are true craftsmen with incredible technique.
kcufuck
Looks like brass or bronze. Will that be strong enough to support the weight?
KanyesGayFish
I would think TIG would be much stronger?
btraqnasty
It looks like bicycles in which case Yeah it shouldn't be a problem. But its definitely not as strong as steel.
therealitx
Brazing properly done can be stronger than welding.
I would need some proof. Right now I don't believe it because welding is making 2 pieces into 1. Brazing is holding 2 together.
lambaroo
apparently brazing allows for a tiny bit of flex in the structure and less chance of fatigue, whereas welding doesn't.

In an ideal world, the welded part is perfectly homogeneous, but that doesn't exist for either process
[deleted]
Nope. Straight up brazing only.
Yup, this company builds over 60,000 bikes per year. Ive only seen one failure, and that was a 17 year old bike that got ridden daily.
VolcanoTacoGinsburg
What's the name of the company? Sorry if I missed it
Brompton.
GreaterDog
Learned to weld last week, my welds look like shit. But at least they hold vacuum?
Arc, mig, overhead, industrial?
TIG/MIG
Learn arc if you want clean welds like that. I find it easier except on cast iron welding. ugh Screw that noise.
ThighHighsSaveLives
Cast iron was so evil in my 3 years of welding courses in high school they didn't even try to teach us
