What's insane about this is anyone with a decent head on their shoulders has known about this shit for over a decade. In fact, honestly, a lot of people knew the second they introduced the 'infinite scroll' bullshit. I hope the lawsuit goes through and sets a precedent. 100 percent. Besides taxing the rich we need to hold these companies accountable for the damages they're doing.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted for this - it's literally what Zuck started before starting facebook - called Facemash, which basically copied Hot or Not

If they legit are suing for the total annual revenue, I sincerely hope that sticks, because that needs to form precedent for future suits against other willfully malignant companies and their leadership.
Dang, i‘m so rarely on this site that the video genuinely kept confusing me because you know, I was here when we upgraded from 30 seconds to 60 second videos. I remember cropping down videos or dual uploading to post two halves because the clip was 1 minute 15
They knew. They didn't care about the harm, they designed for addiction. The amount of mental illness social media has exacerbated hits people of all ages.
The problem is the dumbass US elected an orange corrupt pedo and his GOP stooges. All of who packed the Supreme Court. So all he has to do is make a donation to the orange turd and SCROTUS will make this all go away. So it will be up to the EU yet again to do anything.
Given the zero real consequences for the actual people, the result of this court case is that they find out whether the decisions to harm literally a hundred thousand children or more will turn out to be the financially correct decision or not.
I like this commentary in general, but would prefer it if it was simply text. Also, I think the phrase "thicky thicky dumb dumb "" should be immediately and permanently banned from Imgur.
I wish there was a way to mute posts and comments containing specific word strings.
I'm not British. I like the lilting quality of the phrase. You clearly haven't had a lot of exposure to British entertainment if that's the most ridiculous British phrase you've ever heard
You *are so dumb. See, I helped yah even those these are some of the most pointless comment trails I’ve read this year. You must have a lot of time to waste, so block me too! :)
Well... I don't have WhatsApp and it ruins your communication pretty badly. I still stand on that decision.
But the flipside is that friends and family make plans or talk about something and you'll be the last to hear of it... if that.
So yeah, there's a certain pressure for people to join the crowd or be left out. This only gets worse if work uses WhatsApp for coordination. Then the "fun" times start.
I was fortunate enough to break that cycle years ago, and you're right it was hard to handle the fomo-esque feelings at first, but after a while they really faded. I've found that the really important events people will reach out in other ways.

It's Big Tobacco all over again internal research showing the harm, public denial, and a business model that depends on people staying hooked
iusedtodream
Excellent comparison, because like tobacco this shit is also targeted at children to hook them while they are young.

Too bad there isn't an alternate narrator.

nickasaurusrex83
2,000,000,000 people using WhatsApp monthly as of 2020. Until that changes, don't expect Zuckercunt to change.

Much of it Ai bot traffic, just like F-Book. https://arkansasradio.com/2026/01/ai-generated-content-now-dominates-facebook-feeds-studies-show-2/

No, because it's designed to be addictive, i.e. it's difficult to drop even when you know it's harming you.
nickasaurusrex83
They have at least 2,000,000,000 people WhatsApp monthly. Until that changes, this sort of shit won't.
