Same, I still have crazy anxiety! I've been taking ashwaganda pills and that helps a bit - also exercise helps more

I thought everybody did that.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How would she figuratively do that?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had to read the part in catcher in the eye in which the fuck you is on the wall. Yeah that felt good to say.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It wasn't just me?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I loved reading so I was stoked to show off how good I was at it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I had a full blown panic attack bc the word “bosom” was in my section. I was embarrassed and pretended I lost my spot and skipped over it.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same thing but I had a speech problem with my R’s. Prayed that there weren’t any words I couldn’t say properly.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same. It still pops in to say hello once in a while to keep me on my toes

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i did that...just so I know at what point I needed to pay attention again......

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Uni Prof used to ask the person reading if they wanted to pick the next person or should he pick so-and-so (he'd name a student)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reading aloud to the class at college level is really silly.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My class used to do a fun thing where we would switch after a word containing a particular letter, like 'g' (ie finish reading that word)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

School has so many anxiety starters: reading aloud, going to the board to solve a math problem, being picked last on a team, no lunch seat..

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd think about what funny voice i'd use

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And then the teacher spots you doing this and changes up the order of people...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did we not all do this?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was agonizing over the people who had less skill than I did, because they hated reading and I loved it. And I wanted to do voices.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never did this, I could read pretty well at a young age. i

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My teacher would call people at random. He'd just say someone's last name after each paragraph. He picked some people twice to fuck with us.

7 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 1

Just when you thought you were safe and could stop sweating and relax...the devil strikes again.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine would do that, along with make you stand and answer any questions people had about what you read, since "You read it, you know it."

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hated those assholes. Following along at a word every several seconds was agonizing. Let me calculate and mark it so I can read ahead

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Ditto

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did that to, and would read the lead and following paragraph to have my bases covered

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd read faster then the people talking and when it was my turn I'd ask where we were to go BACK to it. My teacher stopped asking me to read

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did the same thing so I could check out during class.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Elementary school? This was a hellish torture for me in high school. I was pages ahead by the time my semi-literate classmates did 20 words.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

and then they get picked twice because somebody left the classroom early and they volunteer to read for them

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always had trouble controlling the volume of my voice. I'd start and kids would jump out of their seats. Fun times.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then that overachieving asshole read two paragraphs so it gets to you and you’re lost

7 years ago | Likes 264 Dislikes 0

Good teachers always start with the strongest students first specifically to give others time to do this.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good teachers don't do this at all

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It sucks when you miscount and practice the wrong paragraph.

7 years ago | Likes 590 Dislikes 0

You didn’t miscount, the teacher let some kid read twice as much now you are stuck reading some super mammoth paragraph

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Or some kid backs out or rides his/her momentum and accidentally reads a second paragraph

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or when the person in front of you reads YOUR part so now you gotta tumble over your words while they get a pat on the back.

7 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

Or you have one overachiever kid who reads two paragraphs. Always hated that kid.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Well done Tim.... Idiot..."

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

'I had this totally normal school experience that everyone has and this is where I got my over-exaggerated mental health condition from'

7 years ago | Likes 219 Dislikes 33

A millennial would complain. A boomer would suck it up and get over it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

It's not where they got it from, it's what caused the first recognizable symptoms.

This tickled me in a way I did not expect. I shall yoink this into my personal collection so I may yeet it at another.

Over exaggerated isn’t a thing, exaggerated means it as is.

7 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 7

Irregardless, I could care less.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

No. Just regardless, unless you could care less.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah but what if it’s scientifically proven to be MORE exaggerated than normal? Like a clear 3+ sigma shift from the mean?

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Then it’s exaggerated. More than normal. Exaggerated.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's exaggeratedly exaggerated. Exaggerated^2.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This conversation is exaggerated

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everyone did that.

7 years ago | Likes 526 Dislikes 23

Not me. Because I'd forget to stop and by the time it was my turn I'd be ahead of where they wanted me to read and get lost.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*shh* They want to feel special for experiencing an emotion literally every human ever has.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I didnt. I had already read the entire chapter or section by the time the first person finished reading aloud. I just put my head down.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

One time I was so into a book that I read through an entire spelling test. I was terrified I’d failed but the teacher let me retake it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah, but then you needed to frantically look back for the part you needed to read

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never frantic. Almost always had it committed to short term memory. Reading was something I loved as a kid.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ugh. I’m almost 30 and that deep feeling of embarrassment of not knowing where you are when finally called on cause you read ahead...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't. I just fucked up and felt embarrassed

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i didn't. my problem was that i read way faster than the other kids and had to pay attention to where they were at so i could backtrack

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

when my teacher realized this, she stopped making me read aloud. i would finish whole books in the time it took the class to read a chapter

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's because you read slower when you're reading out loud.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didnt, but I also could read without messing up words longer than four syllables

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 14

Yup. And then, somewhere along the way I lost the advanced part. I still have my vocabulary though.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let it be known folks

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Same, but I was also blessed to have parents that actually cared and helped me to read from 4 years old.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea but that’s where her anxiety started

7 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

That’s where all our anxiety started

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

My anxiety stems from me being a perfectionist and being afraid to not do whatever I'm trying to do perfectly on the first try..

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Awful comment. Try again.
